Had a great time at the Swan Island Dahlia Festival last week. The flowers were spectacular! Here are a couple.

Went to Cannon Beach last night to catch the Milky Way over Haystack Rock. Weather was awesome and almost too warm and no wind. And I read PhotoPills correctly, the Milky Way lined up with the ROCK!
But so many things to remember. Too many to rehash here but I tried a new thing I've been wanting to try. Shooting with not only the usual 14mm I had my 2nd camera with the 85mm.
Lesson !: Should have also packed my 50mm as the 85mm wasn't wide enough.
Lesson 2: This was the biggie. I forgot with the 85mm I would get stars beginning to streak at 6 seconds and even worse at 13 seconds. 😫 With the 14mm at 13 seconds the stars are nice pin spots.

Well that was fun. I typed in wesdotphotography in my desktop to see if I had created a blog post on a fun, very simple new thing I discovered in Photoshop. Look at what popped up. We are searchable just like the real pros. 🤣😉
But one thing that is not totally correct. WHERE TO GO TO BUY OUR IMAGES. I have not updated the WesDotPhotography website with new images in over a decade so if you are interested in buying anything go to this link instead.

Saved my favorite tiny beast from the for last. This is the beautiful spiny flower mantis nymph. It is only about 0.15 inches but could grow to a whopping 1.5 inches. 🤣
The adult has spiny structures giving it its name. It is variable in color, being typically light green, but it can equally be tinted yellow, pink, or red. Once grown it has a large eyespot on its forewings, which is black, green and cream and is surrounded by a green patch. The inner hind wings are orange and the outer hind wings are transparent.
I will be waiting patiently for it to grow!😉

TIME MARCHES ON.
Nearly 18 years ago Wes and I had a trip of a lifetime. Stayed with our daughter Mia and son-in-law Thierry in France. Tonya brought this photo to the forefront of my mind last night.
I took this photo in Saint-Émilion which is a historic medieval village in the Bordeaux wine region of southwestern France. This is a small chapel that we visited that was bathed in a vivid green light and a local cat making itself at home. BTW.....cats are everywhere!
Way back then I was just beginning my obsession so settings are all wrong plus editing was not all that great (understatement) and also didn't make any notes as to what tools I used. Luckily I had switched over from shooting in JPEG to RAW. Still hard to fix as I like some of what I had in the original so maybe in another 18 years I can improve on it again. 🥹🥹

It was a perfect day yesterday to visit the Swan Island Dahlia festival in Canby, Oregon. Nice cloudy day and cooler temps. Here is just a couple. Lots more to edit.

This is a spiny flower mantis nymph. When he/she is mature functional wings will cover the abdomen, featuring a distinct, large black-green-cream eyespot on the forewings.
BUT for now it's a wee babe and busy cleaning those feet. 🥰 Reminds me of a cat contorting it's body to get to those hard to reach places.
