I’ve been dating this girl for a year. She’s gorgeous, funny, smart, great job. But she has this male cat she’s had since college and she is way too attached to him. Like, disturbingly attached.

If that cat is on her lap, she will not move. She’ll ask me to grab her phone from the table, her water from the kitchen, the remote from the counter. I say “just move the cat” and she looks at me like I suggested she drown him. She says he’s sleeping, or she says “he’s catting right now” like that’s a real reason to make me her errand boy.

He follows her everywhere. She’ll be on the couch and he’ll jump up and park himself on her chest. She’ll be in bed and he walks across my back to get to her. She works from the computer and he sits on her keyboard. Every single time, she stops what she’s doing and baby talks him.

The worst part is when she gets home. I have a key and sometimes I’m there first. But when she walks in, this cat runs to the door meowing like he hasn’t seen her in years. And she drops her bag, drops everything, and goes “there’s my boy!” in this high pitched voice I’ve never heard her use with me. Then she scoops him up and gives him these long scratches behind the ears while he purrs like a motor. She’ll stand there for ten minutes just holding him and talking to him while I’m sitting right there on the couch trying to say hi.

Last night I asked her if we could watch a movie without the cat between us. She said I was being ridiculous. She said he’s just a cat and I need to grow up. I told her it feels like I’m competing with him for her attention and she laughed in my face. She said “you’re jealous of a cat? That’s pathetic.” Then she said if I can’t handle her bond with her pet, maybe I’m too insecure for a relationship and she doesn’t have time to babysit my ego.

I told her it’s not about the cat, it’s about the way she treats me like a roommate who runs errands while she treats him like her actual partner. She got mad and said I was trying to come between her and her cat. She said if I keep this up she’s going to have to rethink us because she won’t be with someone who gives her ultimatums about her pet.

She’s been cold to me all day. Her sister texted me saying I’m being controlling and weird about an animal. But I don’t think I’m wrong for wanting to feel like the priority in my own relationship. The cat is male, he’s all over her, and she treats him better than she treats me.

Am I wrong?

The doctors said that my wife only has one week left to live 😭💔👉🏻

These are my sons, Miguel and Artur. They were just born and haven't been able to feel their mom's embrace because she had a complication during surgery.

I'm a 34-year-old woman, and about seven months ago, I went through a painful breakup with my long-term boyfriend. After everything fell apart, I moved in with my best friend and her husband while I got my life back together.

That's when I met my neighbor, K.

He helped us move into the house, and from the very first day, I couldn't stop thinking about him. He was handsome, funny, thoughtful, and the kind of man who made everyone around him feel important.

He was always talking about his family. He brought home little surprises for his kids, called them during the day, and never missed a chance to encourage them. Watching him be such a devoted father only made me like him more.

Over time, my innocent crush became something much deeper.

Then one evening, everything changed.

K knocked on my door looking worried.

His wife had been involved in a car accident while traveling for work. She was pregnant, and he needed to catch the next flight to be with her immediately.

They didn't have any family nearby.

He asked if I could watch his daughters for a few hours until a family friend arrived.

Of course, I said yes.

I thought it would be easy.

I was wrong.

The oldest daughter challenged every rule I gave. She argued about dinner, ignored instructions, and acted like I wasn't even there.

The middle child seemed determined to turn every activity into chaos.

And the youngest followed whatever trouble her sisters started.

For hours, I tried my best to keep things under control.

Then, while playing hide-and-seek, the younger girls tricked me and locked me outside the house.

When I tried to get back in, the oldest daughter looked directly at me through the screen door, put on her headphones, and pretended not to hear me.

I stood there, completely stunned.

Thankfully, the family friend arrived a few minutes later and let me back inside.

After that, I quietly went home.

That night, I couldn't stop thinking.

For months, I had imagined what life might be like if things were different. I had built an image in my mind of K and the beautiful future we could have together.

But spending just a few hours with his children shattered that fantasy.

Maybe I had never really known what I was wishing for.

Maybe I wasn't seeing reality at all.

Sometimes, we fall in love with an idea of someone instead of the actual life that comes with them.

And when reality finally shows up, it can look very different from the dream.
