One of the biggest misconceptions when shopping for whipped tallow is the difference between jar size and net weight.

When searching for the perfect tallow, you'll often see products advertised by their container size, such as a 2 oz or 4 oz jar (or 2 fl oz / 4 fl oz). Most people naturally assume that number represents how much product they're getting, but that's not actually the case.

Cosmetic products like whipped tallow are sold by weight, not by volume, which is why they're required to display the Net Wt. on the label. This FDA labeling requirement helps consumers compare products accurately and avoid confusion. Unfortunately, many small and local makers still advertise by jar size, making apples-to-apples comparisons difficult.
