The Hill House Edit
Just a girl with a 1968 house & a lot of ideas. Estate sales, DIYs, decorating & life in between. There’s always another project around here.
Follow along to see what we get into next⬇️
That sweet man has learned to trust my crazy ideas!
Y’all, Steven’s face when I spotted another piece of furniture at an estate sale in Fredericksburg! I could already picture it in our primary bathroom, filled with pretty linens and all those little antique pieces I love collecting.
He wasn’t quite seeing it, but that didn’t stop him from loading it in the truck!
One of my favorite things about the Hill House is that we’ve created it together. He may shake his head at some of my ideas, but he always supports me, and I do the same for him.
And now look how pretty she is!
Tell me, are you the one bringing home the treasures or the one loading the truck?

Sometimes it’s that one piece you didn’t even know you were looking for that brings an entire room together.
I found this painting at an estate sale, and when I brought it home, I knew exactly where I wanted it: above the mantel in our snug room.
I decided to have it professionally framed with a fabric-wrapped mat and a delicate inner fillet, and goodness, what a difference that made.
The framing gave the artwork such a beautiful, elevated look. Once we placed it on the mantel, I felt like the entire room came together. It was that finishing touch I didn’t even realize we were missing.
And here’s something I really believe: you don’t have to own artwork by a well-known artist or spend a fortune to have something beautiful in your home. Sometimes it’s simply finding a piece you love and giving it the attention it deserves.
That’s what makes a collected home so special to me. It’s not about what something costs. It’s about how it makes you feel.
Have you ever found a piece of artwork at an estate sale that you just couldn’t leave behind?
This room really shows how we approach decorating the Hill House. We don’t try to finish a room all at once. We start with something we love and let it build from there.
A Round Top rug, furniture we had reupholstered, Facebook Marketplace finds, estate sale treasures…and slowly it became a room that feels like it’s always belonged in our 1968 home.
But more than anything, we wanted it to be a room we actually use. A place to have a cocktail, gather with friends and just land at the end of the day.
That’s always the goal around here—a collected home filled with things you love and memories you’re still making
Okay, so remember that estate sale Momma and I stumbled on yesterday while we were out antiquing? I told you it was a good one.
Look at these little vintage sip-and-snack trays. You have a spot for your snack, your drink and yes…even your cigarette. 😂
I mean, come on. You know I love entertaining, and finding something like this that actually goes with the era of the Hill House makes it even better.
My best finds come from the stops I didn’t even plan to make.
This is what happens when Momma and I are driving down the road and spot an estate sale sign. There was absolutely no discussion about whether we were stopping. 😂
“Oh yeah, we gotta go in.”
And let me just tell you…we were very glad we did. I walked out carrying a box and found some GOOD stuff.
I’ll show you everything in Part 2!
There are two kinds of people… the ones who understand that you HAVE to pull over when you see an antique store, thrift shop or estate sale sign—and the ones who ask, “Do we really need to stop?”
Bonus points if you check Facebook Marketplace everywhere you go.
If you get it… congratulations. We just became friends. Now get in, we have an estate sale to hit.
Please tell me I’m not the only one with these priorities. 😂
Why is putting a nail through wallpaper so nerve-racking?! 😂 I stood there with these two little pictures for entirely too long before I finally committed.
I love adding art and collected pieces to our home, but making that first little hole in wallpaper I love? That takes courage. Please tell me I’m not alone in this.
Sometimes I forget just how much this house has changed until I look back at where we started.
We didn’t come in wanting to erase everything or make it look like every other house we were seeing. We wanted to take the good bones that were already here and slowly make them feel like us.
Wallpaper, color-drenched rooms, millwork, vintage finds, reupholstered furniture and plenty of layers later…each room has started telling its own story.
And we’re definitely not finished. I’m not sure a collected home ever really is.
