Things I love… beaches, pools, and sunshine.
Things that don’t love me back… beaches, pools and most of all sunshine!
Despite the fact that my red headedness means it’s biologically my biggest adversary, I LOVE the sunshine. Knowing what I need to do to protect my skin while exposed to my favorite things, is equally as important as caring for my skin after exposure.
Did you know that skin is our largest organ? Its primary function is protecting us from external aggressors, and a very important part of that is the hydrolipidic film that our body produces to safeguard our skin. Without that layer we are not only vulnerable to bacteria, fungus, and completely defenseless to the environment but we would also look old as hell! You put sunscreen on your skin to protect it while enjoying the sun (at least I hope so!), but what are you doing to make sure you’re telling your skin thank you for keeping you safe once you get home?
Rebalancing your skins natural pH after exposure to the rollercoaster of salt and chlorine is imperative for protecting and restoring that hydrolipidic barrier. Davines North America SU is my secret weapon, meant to calm your skin and bring back balance and moisture after sun exposure. Regenerative organic certified bitter orange is the active ingredient in SU, using its antioxidant superpowers to hunt down free radicals caused by sun exposure.A great bonus is its magical scent, bright and sunny with apple & rose but still grounded thanks to a warm musk at its base. SU only makes its way into our salon once a year, and once we run out it’s a long wait to next springs replenishment. We only have a few items left so grab them while you still can!

I used to shut down Play and show up to work in full face makeup the next morning... these days I can barely get it together after a long night of studying while watching Lord of the Rings with my husband! Anyways... living is evolving! Also, I am doing International Colour Genius!

It is actually wild the ability to sit down and commit to something like this. If you haven't heard from me in a long time, it's likely because I commit at least two hours a day to studying for this. Absolutely wild to know my brain is capable of that kind of focus, and more so that I would ENJOY it. I wish baby Kayleigh knew that ADD was what was holding me back, not a lack of intelligence. Like I said, living is evolving never stop learning ESPECIALLY about yourself.

My favorite kind of blonde… Nothing makes me happier than creating looks Iike this. Growing up in California with family that is naturally blonde (shocker considering my natural red!), that hair color does something super special when it sees the sun so often. Brighter around the face, lightest at the ends and just a hint of what’s to come in the new growth. Recreating that effect it one of my favorite services as a colorist. My favorite trick for creating that seamlessness is to leave a thin veil of natural color over the highlights, just tipping the very ends to blend and diffuse everything.

It’s not personal… no really, that’s the point. I have been doing my best to redirect client inquiries about appointments to the front desk, but the reality is I get so many texts asking about availability or rescheduling that I’m not only overwhelmed but I’m also missing personal messages. Moving forward I will be offering a single response of “Here’s the number to the front desk”. It’s not that I don’t want to help you, it’s just that if I’m at the salon I wont answer because I’m working. If I’m off, I want to be off… personal time is hard to come by as a business owner. II have invested a lot in making sure that our front desk is ALWAYS staffed, if you text us they answer, if you call we answer (if we can’t leave a voicemail, they call back) I promise that they’re more responsive than I am.
If you’re running behind and shoot me a text, that’s no big deal… but truly that is the only exception. If front desk says my soonest availability is X, I promise there isn’t some secret slot only I know about.
This is a hard line issue for me moving forward, I am making a huge effort to realign my work/life balance.
If you wanted to order takeout from a restaurant that was too busy to take orders, would you message one of the busy waiters and expect a response? Would you text the chef and beg them to come in on a day off to make your favorite meal? I can’t stress enough how much anxiety it causes to know that 80% of the time when my phone vibrates it’s likely a work text, and since getting another 818 number is unlikely I will be retiring before I change my number.
This isn’t directed at one person, and quite frankly my lack of boundaries created this monster to begin with… It’s just up to me to set a new precedent and ask that you all kindly follow suit.

My client Abby came in wanting something "more red". The more we broke down what that meant during our consult the more excited I got. We have tweaked her formula to achieve her perfect copper over the course of years, so the thought of change made me sweat. She wanted to keep her base but add in some pops of cooler toned lowlights, and we landed on the idea of showcasing multiple ginger tones from rich copper, cool mahogany to a soft gold. 🧡formula in slide two
Just a reminder to never stop consulting with your clients, the people most comfortable with you often and up giving you the most creative projects. 🧡

You do it... well, within reason.
Sydney only has two more appointments before her big day, so when she brought in copper inspiration photos I had a little moment of panic. My honest opinion?... the warm tones would be incredible on her. My honest fear?... she'd regret it and we'd be panic lifting leading up to the wedding.
Thanks to The Present Time, we are able to lean into the warmth with much lower commitment.
May take it a touch farther next time, who knows. Whether we intensify, or stay on this lane, her color makes her GLOW. 👰🏻‍♀️ ✨

A little dimension drop with a touch of stalkerish behavior for
I love to do something a little bolder before we get back into full spring bright blonde mode, and adding some intensity to her hair was just what the doctor ordered!
