Violet Botanical Skincare
The story of Violet Botanical Skincare is deeply personal—a mission rooted in the love of my family and determination. I refused to accept this as our reality.
As a wife and mother, I was desperate to find gentle relief for my husband and son's dry skin due to eczema. I refused to accept steroid creams as the only answer. The more I learned, the more horrified I became. These creams didn’t just mask the problem; they often made it worse, stunting the skin’s natural growth and leading to the dreaded Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW)—a severe reaction that occurs when these creams are stopped after prolonged use. I needed something better—something that wouldn’t just treat their skin, but would nurture, moisturize, and soothe it. I thought back to the wisdom of my grandmother and the generations of African traditions she embodied. She always had a remedy for every ailment—a potion, a salve, a concoction she whipped up with ingredients from the earth. Her ‘old wives' remedies’ were legendary in our family, though we never knew exactly what they were called. Inspired by her example, I embarked on a mission to create natural, effective solutions that would truly moisturize and soothe my family’s skin. In 2014, I created my first batch of body butter right in my kitchen, using Shea butter, nutrient-rich oils, and essential oils—pure, natural ingredients I could trust. The results were more than I could have hoped for. My husband and son finally found relief from their dry skin, and we all began using the body butter as a daily moisturizer. Our skin took on a healthy glow and felt softer than ever. But it didn’t stop there. I shared the body butter with family and friends. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive—they saw the same visible improvements, the same healthy glow. It became clear that this was more than just skincare; it was a way to honor the wisdom of my ancestors and to care for my family in the purest way possible. And so, Violet Botanical Skincare was born—a labor of love, inspired by my family and driven by a desire to offer natural, effective solutions to others. Every product is crafted with the same care and dedication that I put into that first batch, using only the finest organic and wild-harvested African botanical ingredients. Because for me, this isn’t just business—it’s personal.
There's a free tool I taught my son to use before he buys anything — the one that actually answers what Tuesday's post couldn't.
Sunday, I'm showing you exactly how.

Some of what you've heard about skincare isn't quite right. True or false?
Swipe through and see how many actually surprise you — a couple of these got me too, back when I was first figuring this out.
Fragrance-free. Unscented. Not the same promise — and there's a third word most people never check for.

No masking fragrance ever says "masking fragrance" on a label. It just says one of three words: Fragrance. Parfum. Aroma.
Any of those can legally represent dozens of undisclosed scent ingredients — including the ones added specifically to cover up a base smell in something labeled "unscented."
This matters more if your skin is already compromised. A weakened barrier doesn't just feel more reactive — it's more permeable, which means whatever's hiding behind those three words has an easier way in than it would on skin that's intact.
You don't need to memorize a chemistry list. Just those three words, and a habit of actually checking for them.

"Fragrance-free" and "unscented" get used like they mean the same thing. They don't.

Today is World Eczema Day. 🌿
If you live with eczema, you already know things a lot of people don’t — how a “normal” day can turn into managing pain, unpredictability, and comments from people who mean well but don’t get it.
You don’t owe anyone your skin story. But if you’re comfortable sharing, this is a space for it.
And if you don’t have eczema — this is a good day to just listen. A little understanding goes a long way toward making things easier for the people around you who do.
As a brand built for sensitive, reactive skin, we see this every day — and we’re grateful to be part of a community working toward better care and more understanding.
To everyone navigating their own skin journey today: you’re seen, and you’re not alone. 💛
Three minutes. That's the whole window.

Three minutes.
That's all I'm going to say for now — you'll get the rest Sunday.
Ever towel off, moisturize, and still feel dry twenty minutes later?
There's a window, right after you towel off, where sealing that moisture in actually matters. Miss it, and the water that was just on your skin is already gone.
I'll walk through exactly why on Sunday. For now, I'm curious —
How long after your shower do you usually moisturize? Right away, still damp, or after you're dressed — just the parts still showing?
