Skincare gets all the credit and does maybe half the work.
The other half is dull: sleep, protein, water, stress, and putting sunscreen on when it’s grey outside. None of it photographs well. All of it shows up on your face eventually.

You don’t need to memorise ingredient lists. You do need to know which of the three you’re holding, because they don’t do the same job.
Water-soluble works on the surface. Oil-soluble gets into the pore. The third is for anyone who’s been told they can’t tolerate the first two.

Shedding runs on a cycle, and the cycle has a season. One long-running study found the highest share of resting-phase hairs at the end of summer and into autumn. September is peak drain season.
Here’s the bit nobody tells you: a hair rests about three months before it falls. So what’s coming out now was set in motion back in June. And whatever you start today turns up around December, not in two weeks.
Dry skin is missing oil. Dehydrated skin is missing water. You can have oily, dehydrated skin — which is why “just use a richer cream” so often makes things worse.
With age you tend to drift into both, and that’s usually the moment people say their skincare “stopped working.”
Hyaluronic acid handles the water half. Apply it to damp skin and put your moisturiser on top, or it’ll pull moisture the wrong way.

Honest answer: some of it will settle on its own. The rest won’t, and it gets a little more stubborn each summer you leave it.
Three things, in this order. Antioxidant in the morning, a targeted corrector, and tinted SPF every single day. The tint matters here: iron oxides screen visible light, which also feeds pigmentation. Untinted sunscreen doesn’t do that job.
The order isn’t optional. Correcting without protecting is just re-doing the work.
