I have to show you this. 🧡

The plate on the left is store-bought calendula. The plate on the right is calendula I grew from my own beds, picked by hand, and dried slow and gentle right here at home.

I knew there’d be a difference. I did not expect this! 😯 Look at that deep orange, those whole, intact flower heads with the green still holding on. That’s what fresh, homegrown, small-batch actually looks like.

Every bit of this was grown with a whole lot of love and a whole lot of dirt under my nails. This right here is exactly why I do what I do. 🌼

Hi, I’m Michelle…the witch behind That Hippie Witch.

If we’ve drifted apart, welcome back. I went quiet on here for a while, but I wasn’t gone. I’ve been growing, brewing, studying, and building this little apothecary into something I’m genuinely proud of. But I’m ready to start showing you all that I’ve been doing so I thought a little reintroduction might be good!

So who am I?

I’m a mom, a Mimi, a cat servant, a professional housekeeper, and a witch. 🧙‍♀️ I’ve walked an eclectic Wiccan path for close to 30 years now. I’m a certified Usui Reiki Master, an ordained priestess and wedding officiant, and I’m working toward my Master Herbalist diploma. I’m busy, but I like it that way!

Everything I make is handcrafted right here on my family homestead in Indianapolis where I tend medicinal herb beds, keep a permaculture garden, bake sourdough, and share my home with my adult daughter and six very opinionated indoor cats (plus a whole colony of ferals I refer to as the Pharaohs 🐈‍⬛).

I’ll also be upfront about where I stand: I’m proudly left-leaning and LGBTQ+ affirming. I believe everyone deserves food, clean water, healthcare, and basic human dignity…full stop. This is a space built on that, and if it resonates with you, you’re my kind of people. 🌈

That Hippie Witch is where my apothecary lives. I create small-batch infused oils, salves, magnesium cream, herbal teas, aromatherapy inhalers, solid perfumes, and tinctures, all made with intention, real plants, and a whole lot of love.

These two bonded babies came from my feral colony and just made the leap to full-time indoor life. As you can see, they’ve adjusted to the hard-knock life of napping in sunbeams juuust fine. 😼☀️

They’re pretty much always tangled up together like this - where one goes, the other follows.
