This is one of those fragrances I consider Autumn in a tub. Its profile is hard to put into words. Just a brisk walk through the damp woods in Fall. A nice and outdoorsy fragrance.
The storm rolls in today; wish us luck!

Getting ready for Halloween... π

This is another unique set that I wish I saw more of. ("Saw more." Get it?) When I got it, I expected a very woody, sawdusty scent that smelled just like the lumber aisle at Lowe's. Rather, this fragrance envelopes the whole package: the teacher's beverages of choice, the wood, and the smell of the machines. It's a great fragrance.
I won't be doing a video today unfortunately. I still feel like crap, my wife has duty today so it's just me and the kids until she gets home tomorrow, AND I have to storm prep. Good times. Y'all be safe out there.

Well, we are either getting a Nor'easter or a NO'easter. The forecast calls for either mild wind gusts, or gusts between 60-70mph. The fact that the leaves haven't fallen yet really sucks as it turns every tree into a sail, not to mention we've been on-again/off-again with drought conditions since Summer began, and that weakens trees. The next few days should be interesting.
I was standing in my den trying to ponder what Autumn set to use, and then "Koa Mahina" from Moon Soaps popped into my head out of nowhere. It's not an Autumn scent, but it has the unique status of pulling off a nice tropical fragrance, but also gives off a darker vibe. I like this scent the more I use it, and it has moved up into one of my favorite Moon Soaps releases. It's basically a dark, tropical year-rounder, and I can't think of another release that has attained that.
Hope we don't lose power! Have a great Hump Day.

"Pretty Polly" was such a great scent from last year, and I was elated to hear that TheShaveMercantile was bringing it back, this time with an alcohol splash! This is a nice fragrance with a dark, damp opening. There's some sweetness to it, along with a terrific woody note.
The subject matter is perfect for this time of year. "Pretty Polly" is a famous murder ballad that has passed through generations in Appalachia in which a young woman is lured into the woods by her lover, a ship's carpenter, and unalived. I might do a History Shave about it so I don't want to give too much away. But I absolutely recommend this set as it's great for Fall, not just Halloween.

Well, here we are: Autumn has officially arrived. It honestly doesn't feel like it. Barely any leaves have changed at all, the weather is still comfortable and our pool is still running. Technically the season doesn't start until after 8 PM tonight, so who knows what could happen. π
"Autumn " from Wet The Face is an excellent gourmand that exemplifies precisely the smells and vibes of Fall. It is a wonderfully delectable fragrance that falls into the "Do Not Eat" category. Don's base is outstanding, and his seasonal releases are among my favorites. Off we go!

I did a video in which I use the new Parish Reserve set called "Acadia". To my nose, this is a wonderfully blended fragrance that reminds me a bit of floral perfumes from the 1940s and 50s. That may sound off-putting, but that Lavender and Bergamot opening is pristine. It eventually turns towards a nice and greenish, smoky wood scent. The splash is stellar as you get more of the Oud, and the EdP on its own is worth trying. This is a fragrance I loved immediately.

It wouldn't be Summer without "Batters Up" from Noble Otter Soap Co.. I know this is a 50-50 scent, but I'm on the side that loves it, and I've only grown to enjoy it more with each use. When an artisan comes out with a very unique fragrance, there's almost always a divisive mindset. But I actually seek out unique (I have a soap with a gasoline scent note, for instance) and appreciate when an artisan takes a risk shattering the norm. "Batters Up" will always have a spot in my den.
Way, way back in '08 or '09, my wife and I went to see the Norfolk Tides play while we lived in Virginia Beach and our oldest was barely a toddler. It was only my second Minor League game I'd ever been to, and it was a blast. I think it was long enough that their logo has changed. Either way, this helmet was actually an ice-cream bowl and is one of my prized possessions. Great memories. Have a wonderful Sunday!
