A little look at Kirill’s morning before competition day 🥋
Of course, it starts with a good night’s sleep, a solid breakfast, and a good mood. 😄
Then comes the weigh-in — you have to make sure you’re in the right weight category. Kirill has a little room to spare though: he weighs 32.6 kg and competes in the under-35 kg division.
And then — our judo center, the tatami, warm-up, the opening ceremony, and finally… competition time!
Of course, he wanted to take first place. 🥇 But every competition is more than just a medal. Every match gives you a lesson, something to work on, and another reason to keep training.
Win or lose — back to the tatami and keep getting better. 💪🥋
Scientists don’t always need to invent something completely new. Sometimes, they just need to look closely at the world around us. Nature has been solving problems for millions of years — and we’re learning how to use those solutions in our everyday lives.
This is called : studying nature and applying its principles to human technology and design.
🐦 Kingfisher → the aerodynamic shape of Japan’s high-speed trains
🐛 Cocoon → principles of heat retention and protection
🐜 Termite mounds → natural ventilation in buildings
🪷 Lotus leaves → self-cleaning surfaces
🦎 Gecko feet → dry, reusable adhesives
🦈 Shark skin → reduced drag in water
🐝 Honeycombs → lightweight, strong structures
🕷️ Spider silk → strong, flexible fibers
🐙 Octopus → soft, flexible robotics
🐋 Whale fins → more efficient blades and turbines
Nature doesn’t always need to invent something new. It has already figured out many of the answers. We just have to pay attention.
And today, Kirill was the elements too. 🌊😂
We tried to race the ocean.
Let’s just say… the ocean had a pretty serious home-field advantage. 😄
Becky Cobb Genereux The competition was a great experience and a chance to face some really strong opponents. I learned a new lesson, gained valuable experience, and now it’s time to keep moving forward. 💪🥋 thanks my coach Natasha (KUZYA) Kuziutina and club Dynamo Sports Center JUDO

Kiryl’s peanut observation:
“The surface looks rough, ribbed, uneven, and slightly sparkly under the microscope.”
