Unfilteredtherapistmama
LCSW & mom of 2 over 40 (12 year gap š¤·āāļø) sharing unfiltered parenting truths as a licensed therapist -supprting mamas of kids with big feelings & meltdowns.
You're a busy, overwhelmed, maybe-a-little-perfectionist mama. You are struggling to manage all the various hats you were, take care of yourself all while helping your kiddo manage their emotions. You're googling symptoms at 10pm, walking on eggshells to avoid meltdowns, and wondering if you're doing more harm than good. You're doing everything to support your child with anxiety, fear, or big emotionsābut inside, you're running on fumes. Burnt out. Disconnected. Anxious about your anxious kid. I see you. And Iāve been you. Iām Cerissa RhodesāLCSW, Regulated Parenting Coach, and homeschooling mama of a child with anxiety. I spent years trying to help my son by protecting him from every fear. Turns out? I was unintentionally feeding the anxiety. And while I was so focused on helping him, I ignored my own regulation, needs, and peace. Everything changed when I started with me. Now, I help busy, overwhelmed, and ambitious moms learn how to:
ā
Calm their own nervous system first
ā
Respond to anxious kids without feeding the fear
ā
Set boundaries without guilt
ā
Feel confident, connected, and in control
This isnāt about fixing your kid. Itās about becoming the regulated, empowered mom you already areājust buried under the chaos.

What are the little moments that make you think ānope, not adult enough for this decision!ā š¤·āāļøšš¤Æ
Life feels a little wild right now. Iāve never fit nicely into a box and now is no different. Liberal. Christian. Mom of a middle schooler and a 9-month-old. I've worked since I was 16, and my dream is finally to stay home, but now my stay-at-home friends are going back to work and loving it. Where do you fit right now? Where donāt you? By the way, my village is still thereā¦still solid. We are just now in different, but same phases lol itās complicated. š

I haven't used LinkedIn in 20 years⦠I'm that old! š
And here I am at the park while my 12-year-old plays soccer and the baby naps in his stroller, sweating through this September that thinks it's July, updating my LinkedIn profile. Pray for me, y'all.
How did you use nap time today???? (BTW- morning nap looked totally differentā¦as in I was OUT with me snuggled up in my arms!)
I know, I know mamas you are just trying to support your kiddo. I get it and Iāve done it (in fact I did it a lot in the beginning)! However, instead of your getting feeling supported, they store our reassurance as evidenceā¦proof that it is in fact dangerous for us to leave and we know it too! āSee she doesnāt trust the teacher either, thatās why she is staying 5 min longer.ā Now do they say that out loudā¦NO! But itās how itās processed in their brain. And the sneaking out is never helpful and ABSOLUTELY increases anxiety. Always say good bye and walk away even if it results in a meltdown.
I mean we are in the middle of a sleep regression! This age is soooo fun. Spent 20 min blowing up Dino sprinklers and a splash pad⦠LOVED the blowing up part. Loved the eat grass while hooking up the hose part. Did not love the playing in the water all set up part! So we went to the swingsā¦5min later.

"Surely my drink should be done by now, it's been 15 minutes!"
"Oh great, now she has to stop working on drinks to start the coffee."
"Be nice, Cerissa. She's the only one."
"Am I sure this is where mobile orders are picked up?" (backs up and reads every sign⦠none of them say mobile order)
"Maybe I should ask her⦠no, she's busy. Be patient."
"I wonder if the baby is screaming yet. I know Matt is ready to goā¦"
"I can just ask if this is the spot for mobile orders. That's not rude."
So I finally asked: "Excuse me, is this also where you get mobile orders?"
Her: "No, hun. What's your name?
āCerissaā
Her: āIt's done at the end, around the corner."
It wasn't more than 15 minutes, and definitely not more than 20 by the time I decided to just ask. š
BTW it was delicious and I still need more sleep lol
So hereās the deal with that and it can also be frustrating to the Therapist. Unless your therapist which let me be clear very very few had this training had training and parent evaluations or forensic psychology and thereās a couple other ones out there they are ethically not allowed to give any sort of custody recommendations. They could want to all they want. They may be on your side 100% and they are not allowed to give a recommendation to you or to court. Aside from that, they are not allowed to appear in court, write a letter, make a phone call, provide any sort of documentation without a court order, without a subpoena. It could literally cost them their license and potentially in some cases, put them in jail. itās a violation of HIPAA. So noā¦I wonāt be volunteering to help you in your custody battle. Yes, even if subpoenaed I am going to attempt to get out of it. Itās simply not the role of the therapistā¦
Why does my therapistā¦charge a no show/late cancellation fee? Because our time is valuable. When we are not sitting across from a client providing therapy we are not making money. Even more important, itās taking a spot from someone else. If you learned something new, smiled or felt validated by something I shared, please like and follow my post. I dream of the day I get to use my therapy license to solely support mamas in the chaos of parenting.
Questionā¦baby poopsā¦baby falls asleepā¦
Do we wake baby to change them or let them sleep? š“ š
