There’s something about hydrosols that feels almost impossible to explain until you use a really beautiful one.

🖤 SAVAGE SWISH

Long before modern toothpaste, mouthwash, and whitening strips, many cultures practiced a ritual now known as oil pulling—swishing oil through the mouth as part of a daily hygiene routine. Historical references to this practice date back thousands of years in Ayurvedic traditions, where sesame oil was especially valued and used as part of everyday self-care.

That history fascinated me.

Not because I believe the old ways were perfect, but because I believe there's often wisdom worth preserving.

So, as always...

I started with the plants.

Instead of creating just another oil pulling blend, I wanted to craft something that felt intentional. Something that honored tradition while using ingredients I personally wanted in my own daily ritual.

At the heart of Savage Swish is organic sesame oil, slowly infused with whole clove buds. Sesame oil has been used for generations in traditional oil pulling, while cloves have a long history of use in oral care because of their warm, aromatic nature.

From there, I built the formula with purpose.

✨ MCT Oil keeps the blend light, smooth, and pleasant to swish.

🥥 Liquid Coconut Oil contributes a clean mouthfeel and has become a favorite base in many modern oil-pulling blends.

🌿 Black Seed Oil has been treasured for centuries throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean, where it has long been valued in traditional wellness practices.

Then came the finishing touches...

A carefully balanced blend of peppermint and spearmint creates a clean, refreshing finish, while frankincense and myrrh add a connection to some of the oldest botanicals in recorded history.

For thousands of years, these aromatic tree resins have been prized in cultures throughout the Middle East, Africa, and the Mediterranean. Myrrh, in particular, has an especially long association with oral care and was traditionally incorporated into mouth rinses, tooth powders, and preparations used to freshen the mouth and care for the gums. Frankincense has likewise been cherished for centuries for its clean, resinous aroma and its role in traditional wellness and ceremonial practices.

I love including them not because they're trendy, but because they remind us that people have been caring for themselves with botanicals for generations. They bring a beautiful depth to the blend and help connect this modern ritual to a much older story.

The result is smooth.
Fresh.
Grounded.
And just a little bit wild.

Not every tradition survives for centuries, but the ones that do, usually have a reason. 😉

I originally created RESPIRA for someone who was dealing with that miserable, heavy, stuffy feeling that settles into your chest and head. I wanted to create something comforting—a balm you could massage onto your chest, neck, or upper back while taking a few slow, deep breaths.

RESPIRA begins with a nourishing foundation, then layers in thoughtfully chosen botanicals that have been treasured in herbal traditions for generations.

These two herbs have a long history of traditional use for respiratory wellness. I slowly hand-infused them into jojoba oil to gently capture their beneficial plant compounds.

One of my favorite oils. It's silky, incredibly stable, and gives the balm a smooth, luxurious glide without feeling greasy.

Herbalists often stop to pick it.

One of the most common "weeds" in the world has been traditionally used for generations to comfort bug bites, scrapes, itchy skin, and everyday skin irritations.

Plantain grows in sidewalks, backyards, and pastures all over the world—and it's one of the herbs I reach for most often in my apothecary.

This humble little plant has earned a permanent place in my apothecary, and you'll find it in some of my favorite formulas.
