KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Voting in Massachusetts After Incarceration
Your voice matters, and your right to vote belongs to you.

There is a widespread myth that having a felony record permanently strips you of your voting rights in Massachusetts. That is incorrect.

In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, your right to vote is restored immediately upon release from prison.

Whether you are returning home today or served time years ago, here is everything you need to know to get registered and cast your ballot.

Under Massachusetts law, you only lose your right to vote while actively incarcerated for an adult felony conviction.

You ARE eligible to register and vote if you:

✔️ Have completed your sentence for a felony and are living back in the community.

✔️ Are currently on parole or probation.

✔️ Have a misdemeanor conviction (even if currently incarcerated).

✔️ Are currently held pre-trial (awaiting trial).

✔️ Are a U.S. citizen, a Massachusetts resident, and will be 18+ by Election Day.

Questions or need registration assistance? Visit the Voter Registration Portal: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ (Use this to submit a new application, check status, or update your residential address)

GENTLE REMINDER: The Life After Prison is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) community organization. We do not endorse, support, or oppose any political candidate or party. Our community programs, voter education resources, and services are provided to empower all individuals equally. We encourage everyone to make their voice heard, may the best candidates win!

As we warmly welcome the heavy volume of new partnership opportunities, we’re looking ahead to FY27 with a special focus on making every interaction as wonderful and effective as possible!

To honor our collective time and help us keep our strategic plans moving forward smoothly, we have some gentle updates to our scheduling process for the upcoming fiscal year. We’re so excited about what’s ahead!

All requests for meetings with myself, our Program Director and key members of our team for FY27 will be managed and scheduled by our incoming intern.

This will help streamline the process and ensure all necessary information is collected.

We will continue to prioritize meetings that are intentional, prepared, and focused. To support this effort and honor everyone's time.

We require a concise agenda and defined objective for each meeting request to ensure discussions are purposeful and results driven.

She is mindful of distinguishing between collaborative business opportunities and requests that seek to leverage our expertise or internal information without clear professional intent. This ensures we dedicate our energy and strategy to authentic partnerships.

We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining this standard of professionalism as we head into the new fiscal year starting on 10-1-27.

Thank you!

Mike Curry, Executive Director

Recap of our groundbreaking gun violence awareness event “3 Pounds of Pressure,” held at the prestigious Mosesian Center for the Arts on October 18th by Tunnel Vision‼️

This impactful evening brought together community leaders, artists, and activists in a unified stand against gun violence. The event featured a compelling screening of the “3 Pounds of Pressure” documentary, produced by NPA Film which set the stage for deep community dialogue. Special thanks to author Mike Curry who shared insights from his compelling “3 Pounds of Pressure” book series and connected with readers during an intimate book signing session. We were honored to begin with opening remarks from The Honorable Judge Frison, setting a powerful tone for the evening. Social justice advocate and acclaimed rapper Mysonne delivered an unforgettable keynote address, bringing his unique perspective on community activism and positive change. The evening was masterfully guided by our host, Ms Snakecharma from Boston’s own 104.9FM WRBB, whose dynamic presence helped weave together this meaningful dialogue on gun violence awareness and community healing.
