Last week we named Powerpenia, the loss of muscle power. Here is a simple way to see how well your body still does the thing power is for: getting up off the floor.

It is called the sitting-rising test and it takes about ten seconds.

Stand up. Lower yourself to sitting on the floor. Stand back up. You start with ten points, and you lose one every time you use a hand, a knee, a forearm or the side of your leg to help. Half a point if you wobble.

No equipment. No gym. You can do it in your living room right now.

Here is why it is worth doing. A study that followed 4,282 adults aged 46 to 75 for a median of twelve years found a death rate of 3.7 percent among those with a perfect score, and 42.1 percent among those who scored lowest. An earlier study from the same research group found that each single point on the test was associated with roughly 21 percent better survival.

The test is not measuring how strong you are. It is measuring power, balance and mobility working together, which is the exact combination that decides whether getting off the floor stays easy.

And every part of it is trainable. That is exactly what our semi-private longevity training is built for: no more than four people, the same coach, twice a week, for sixteen weeks.

Want your number measured properly? Leg power, and the sitting-rising test when it is right for you, are part of the Sisu Assessment, along with VO2 max, grip strength, walking speed, balance and body composition.

Come and find out where you actually stand. The tour is free.

Three first plunges today.

Rich and Chris took the cold plunge at 46°F. Brynn went straight for the ice barrel: slush, 32.1°F. All three stayed in, breathed through it, and came out the other side.

Every first plunge at Sisu gets a certificate, signed and dated, with the water temperature you went in at.

Your first one is waiting. Call (719) 960-0345 to book a contrast session: real Finnish sauna, then the cold plunge.

Cold plunge isn’t just about proving you can handle the cold...

It’s about what comes after.

Less soreness. Better recovery. Increased circulation. And that refreshed, ready-to-go feeling.

Sometimes getting back to a stronger you starts with getting a little uncomfortable.

Book your session today.

The new night out starts in the daytime.

More people in their 20s and 30s are skipping the bar for a daytime hangout that leaves them feeling better the next morning, not worse. Some call it a darty. We just call it a good day at Sisu.

Real Finnish sauna. Cold plunge. The salt room. Good people, good conversation, and no hangover.

Our younger crowd figured this out fast. Now bring yours.

Grab your friends and call us. We'll line up your group's sessions at the same time so you can go through the sauna, plunge and salt room together.

Call (719) 960-0345 to book your group.

You know osteopenia. Loss of bone.

You know sarcopenia. Loss of muscle.

You might even know dynapenia. Loss of strength.

Here is the one almost nobody has heard of. Powerpenia, the loss of muscle power. Not how much you can lift. How fast you can produce it.

It is the ability behind getting off the floor, climbing stairs, and catching yourself when you trip. And it does not fade on the same schedule as strength. It goes earlier, and it goes faster.

Which means you can still feel strong and already be losing the thing that keeps you independent.

Next week: the 10-second test that predicts it, and what we do about it.
