As it says in my "The Fathers Walk" storybook, "The walk started in Chicago and every year it grows and grows." Today I got to make a pilgrimage to the homey, book-filled office of the Black Star Project in Chicago, which originated the Million Father March concept. I got a warm welcome from director Gloria Smith, whose brother Philip Jackson was the iconic founder of the organization. She is doing a beautiful job of keeping this nonprofit alive, vibrant and community-centered.

So I happened to meet bestselling children's author Quartez Harris on a zoom call recently, and he bowled me over by launching unexpectedly into a story about how he read my storybook All in a Dad's Day to his son so often that it became the first book his son read independently. I nearly cried; this is the type of impact I have always wanted my books to have! I made him promise to retell the story in a video, and he was kind enough to do so. Here it is. 😊 I just have to add that Quartez is the award-winning author of "Go Tell It," a children's biography of James Baldwin. I'm just so touched that he gave me this testimonial.
