Dr. Rothenberg is the club's first member. Here she is, picking up her monthly provisions from Kate, the owner!

Dr. Rothenberg has been working as a cardiologist in Cincinnati since 2006 and taking care of the former North Presbyterian Church since 2022.

This building was selected after a city-wide search for the perfect location for the Heart of Northside. It needed to be centrally located, easily accessible, in a community that could really use these resources, and it needed a big, flat roof.

The plan is to add structural reinforcements and cover it with a rooftop garden and solar panels. The produce will be harvested and used in our teaching kitchen, to help our neighbors learn to grow and cook delicious, healthy, plant-based meals, and the resulting dishes can be served at events hosted in our space. All of the parts will work together to support community health!

The former church is an anchor on Hamilton Ave. and continues to serve the community as a venue for weddings, lectures, concerts, and other events. Event booking fees help to offset the costs of maintaining the building, and help support our mission of a heart-healthy Northside.

This summer, the Osher Center for Integrative Health at the University of Cincinnati collaborated with the Turner Farm on the Food as Medicine series, and Dr. Rothenberg was invited to discuss the evidence-based recommendations for eating for heart health as well as her vision for the Heart of Northside!

Blake Larson, Turner Farm's Executive Chef, helped everyone create a delicious, heart-healthy meal with farm-fresh ingredients: cannellini bean salad with pan seared salmon, followed by her corn ice cream!

Thank you to everyone who was involved in this series, and a special thanks to Chef Blake for the delicious food we all enjoyed!

Did you know? The Heart of Northside can host your next event!

Our facility has several rentable spaces. The sanctuary can comfortably fit approximately 200 seated guests. It is a glorious space with original curved pews, historic stained glass windows and our beloved organ. In the late afternoon, sunlight streams through the stained glass, creating a rainbow of color in this space!

Your reception can take place right in our gymatorium, with easy access to a commercial kitchen. There is also a VIP suite available for getting ready or as a chill zone.

If you’re looking for a venue for your upcoming nuptials, party, family reunion, what have you, please get in touch. We’re happy to work with you on an arrangement that fits your needs.

Neighbors, is the Northside Farmers’ Market part of your weekly routine?

The Northside Farmers Market takes place 4-7pm on Wednesdays in Hoffner Park, featuring vendors who sell veggies, fruit, eggs, baked goods, spices, canned products, and much more, plus typically a kid-friendly activity, demonstration, live music, or other special event. Best of all, everything for sale at the market is grown or produced within 70 miles of Northside!

In a neighborhood that has experienced tremendous change, this weekly ritual has been going strong for almost 25 years now!
