🌑✨ THE LUCKY NEW MOON IN LIBRA ♎️✨
October 10 | A moment to choose what truly lights you up

There are moments when the universe seems to whisper:

“What do you really want?”

This New Moon in Libra invites us to pause, clear away the noise, and listen—not to what we should want, not to what others expect of us, but to what makes our spirit feel alive. ✨

Libra reminds us that manifestation begins with alignment.

Before we ask the universe to bring something into our lives, we can become clear about what we are actually calling in.

🌿 What brings you joy?
🌙 What makes your heart feel lighter?
✨ What dreams keep returning to you?
🔥 What truly lights you up?
🍂 What are you ready to release so there is room for something new?

Tonight, make a little space for yourself.

Light a candle.
Open a window.
Step outside beneath the dark moon sky.
Write down what you desire—not from fear or scarcity, but from possibility.

Then whisper your intentions into the night:

“I am clear about what I desire.
I trust the unfolding.
I welcome what is meant for me.
I release what no longer belongs.
I make room for what lights me up.”

And then… let the universe participate. 🌌

Not everything has to be forced into existence. Sometimes manifestation is also about recognizing the doors that are already beginning to open.

🍂 LET THE LEAVES LIE 🍂
A little autumn mess can be a beautiful gift to your garden.

As autumn begins to whisper through the garden, resist the urge to make everything perfectly tidy. Those fallen leaves are not waste — they are garden gold. 🌿

Leaf litter creates a natural blanket for the soil, helping to:

🌱 Feed the soil — As leaves slowly decompose, they return organic matter and nutrients to the earth, helping build healthy, living soil.

🪱 Support soil life — Earthworms, fungi, microorganisms and other tiny decomposers thrive beneath this natural layer.

🦋 Create winter homes — Fallen leaves provide shelter for countless insects and their eggs as they overwinter, including butterflies, moths and other beneficial garden inhabitants.

🐞 Protect beneficial insects — What looks like a pile of leaves to us may be a winter nursery, shelter, or hiding place for next season’s pollinators and garden allies.

💧 Hold moisture — A layer of leaf litter helps protect the soil from drying out and moderates soil temperature.

🌿 Build healthier gardens — Nature doesn’t rake every leaf away. Forest floors recycle their own abundance year after year, creating rich, resilient ecosystems.

So this autumn, perhaps leave some leaves where they fall. Tuck them beneath shrubs and trees, spread them over garden beds, or create a quiet little leaf pile in a corner of the garden.

And when you see a slightly messy garden this winter, remember:

Messy isn’t neglected.
Messy can mean alive. 🍂

The garden is already preparing for spring — quietly, beneath our feet.

🌕🔥 FULL MOON IN ARIES ♈️ | SEPTEMBER 26, 2026
Goldenrod • Solidago • Dreams Becoming Reality

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the first hints of autumn are settling into the garden. The days are beginning to soften, goldenrod is glowing like little stars along the edges of the fields, and tonight the Full Moon rises in fiery Aries ♈️.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac — a spark, a beginning, a sacred invitation to move forward.

This Full Moon carries the energy of courage, action, forgiveness, release, and becoming.

And what if the dreams we’ve been carrying quietly in our hearts aren’t meant to remain dreams?

What if this is the moment to give them roots? 🌱

Tonight, gather a little goldenrod (Solidago spp.) and prepare a simple golden tea. Goldenrod has long been associated with resilience, brightness, abundance, and the turning of the seasons. Its golden flowers seem almost made for moonlit ritual — little pieces of sunlight gathered for an autumn evening.

✨ Goldenrod Full Moon Tea ✨

Steep dried goldenrod in freshly boiled water for about 10 minutes. As the tea steeps, sit quietly with your intention.

Breathe.

Release what no longer belongs to you.

Forgive where forgiveness is possible.

And then ask yourself:

What am I ready to bring into reality?

Imagine your dream not as something distant, but as a seed already planted.

See it.

Feel it.

Speak its name.

Then take one small, earthly action toward it.

Because magic isn’t always about waiting for something extraordinary to happen.

Sometimes magic is the moment we decide to begin. 🔥

Let this Aries Full Moon illuminate the path ahead.

May courage replace hesitation.
May forgiveness loosen what has been held too tightly.
May what needs to leave, leave gently.
May your dreams find fertile ground.
And may the things you have whispered to the Moon begin, little by little, to become real.

🌕🌿 A golden moon.
A fiery heart.
A garden full of possibility.

A gentle herbal note: Goldenrod is a beautiful autumn ally, but as with any herb, a little knowledge and care go a long way. Be certain of your plant identification before harvesting or drinking, and if you are pregnant, nursing, have a known allergy, kidney concerns, or take medications, check with a qualified healthcare professional or herbal practitioner first. 🌿✨

For the good of all.

🍂🌿 Preparing for the Autumnal Equinox & Mabon 🌿🍂
September 22, 2026

The wheel is turning.
The light is beginning to soften.
And the garden is whispering that it is time to gather, preserve, give thanks, and prepare. 🍁

As we approach the Autumnal Equinox and Mabon, the second harvest invites us to pause between summer and winter—to notice what has grown, what has ripened, and what we have gathered along the way.

Here at The Happy Herbal Kitchen, preparation for this beautiful seasonal turning might look like:

🌿 Harvesting herbs before the cooler nights arrive—gathering what can be dried, infused, tinctured, or tucked away for winter.

🌻 Collecting seeds from the garden to carry this year’s abundance into another growing season.

🍂 Leaving some leaf litter in place—creating shelter for overwintering insects while returning precious organic matter to the soil.

🌱 Preparing perennial herbs for winter, taking cuttings where appropriate and giving established plants a little attention before dormancy.

🧄 Planting bulbs and autumn crops, trusting that some of the garden’s greatest magic happens beneath the soil where we cannot yet see it.

🫖 Bringing the harvest into the kitchen with warming teas, herbal infusions, soups, roasted roots, spiced apples, and nourishing foods that celebrate the season.

🕯️ Creating a simple Mabon ritual—light a candle, step outside, breathe deeply, and name a few things you are genuinely grateful for.

And perhaps most importantly…

🍁 Slow down.

The equinox reminds us that balance isn’t something we hold forever. It is something we continually move through.

Summer gives way to autumn.
Growth gives way to gathering.
Abundance gives way to preservation.
The garden gives back to the soil.

This is the season of gratitude, reciprocity, harvest, and release.

So as Mabon approaches, walk through your garden. Notice what is still blooming. Gather what is ready. Leave what belongs to the creatures. Return what can nourish the soil.

And give thanks for the beautiful, messy, miraculous cycle that keeps beginning again. 🌿🍂✨

May your harvest be abundant, your pantry nourishing, your garden protected, and your heart grateful.

🌕🔥 Full Moon in Aries ♈️

September 26, 2026 | The Happy Herbal Kitchen

The Full Moon in Aries arrives on September 26, bringing a bright, fiery moment in the lunar cycle. Astronomically, the Full Moon occurs at 12:49 p.m. EDT in the U.S. Eastern time zone.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac—a spark of beginnings, courage, movement, independence, and action. Traditionally associated with Mars, Aries energy invites us to ask:

🔥 What wants to begin?
🔥 Where have I been holding myself back?
🔥 What deserves my energy now?
🔥 What can I release so I can move forward?

And after the slower, reflective energy of the Virgo season, this Full Moon can be a lovely reminder that we don’t have to have every step figured out before we take the first one.

🌿 A Fiery Full Moon Tea

For this moon, I’m reaching for a warming, aromatic blend that feels like autumn in a cup:

🔥 Aries Full Moon Spice Tea

* 🌿 1 tsp dried rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus)
* 🌶️ 3–4 thin slices fresh ginger (Zingiber officinale)
* 🍂 1 small cinnamon stick (Cinnamomum verum or C. cassia)
* 🍊 2–3 strips organic orange peel (Citrus sinensis)
* 🌹 1 tsp dried rose petals (Rosa spp.)
* 🍯 Honey, to taste

Add the herbs and spices to 2 cups of just-boiled water. Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes, then strain. Add honey while warm and enjoy slowly.

The rosemary and ginger bring warming, aromatic notes, cinnamon adds cozy autumn spice, orange brightens the cup, and rose softens the whole blend into something wonderfully balanced.

A little fire. A little sweetness. A little softness. ❤️

Before drinking, take a moment to breathe deeply and set one simple intention:

“I honor my fire. I trust my first step. I move forward with purpose.”

Then step outside, look up at the moon, and let yourself remember that you are allowed to begin again. 🌕🔥🌿

🍂🌿 Getting Ready for the Autumnal Equinox at The Happy Herbal Kitchen 🌿🍂

There’s something about the approach of the Autumnal Equinox that makes everything feel like it’s gently shifting gears. The days are getting shorter, the mornings are a little cooler, and the garden is beginning to whisper, “It’s time to prepare.” 🍁

And around here, we’re ready!

For Brayden, autumn means one very important thing… MORE WALKIES! 🐾🍂 After a long, hot summer of early-morning and late-evening walks, we are both looking forward to cooler days, longer strolls, crunchy leaves, and plenty of time outside together. ❤️

And while Brayden is busy inspecting every interesting smell along the trail, I’ll be busy in the Happy Herbal Kitchen garden:

🌷 Planting bulbs for spring’s future abundance
🌿 Harvesting herbs while they’re still at their seasonal best
🍃 Gathering seeds and saving a little garden magic for next year
🪴 Preparing tender herbs for overwintering
🍂 Cleaning, mulching, and preparing perennial herbs for their winter rest
☕ And, of course, bringing some of the garden indoors through teas, infused oils, tinctures, and nourishing seasonal preparations.

The Equinox reminds us that harvest and release can happen at the same time. We gather what is ready, preserve what we can, plant what will sleep beneath the soil, and allow the garden—and ourselves—to slow down.

So here’s to cooler walks, muddy paws, autumn gardens, full baskets, herbal preparations, and the beautiful wisdom of the changing seasons. 🍂🐾🌿

Brayden and I are ready for you, Autumn! ❤️

We have got this so wrong!!!!

🌿 THE LIFE OF A PLASTIC PLANT POT 🌿

As gardeners, we spend so much time nurturing life—planting seeds, tending soil, feeding pollinators, and creating little sanctuaries for wildlife. But there’s another part of gardening worth considering: what happens to the things we garden in.

Those little black plastic nursery pots can seem insignificant. One plant, one pot… but multiply that by thousands of gardens and millions of plants, and the amount of plastic becomes enormous.

The good news? We don’t always have to throw them away. ♻️

🌱 Reuse them. Clean and save nursery pots for starting seeds, taking cuttings, dividing plants, or sharing seedlings with friends.

🌱 Return them. Some local nurseries and garden centers accept clean pots for reuse or recycling.

🌱 Buy thoughtfully. Look for growers using recyclable, reusable, biodegradable, or plastic-free alternatives when possible.

🌱 Pass them along. Your gardening friends may have a use for the pots you’re finished with.

🌱 Choose longevity. A sturdy pot that can be used for many years is often a better choice than something intended for a single season.

And remember—recycling isn’t the first step. Reducing and reusing come first.

There is something wonderfully herbalist about this philosophy: use what you have, waste as little as possible, and remain in right relationship with the living world around you.

Our gardens aren’t separate from nature.

They are part of it. 🌎🌿

So before you toss that empty nursery pot into the bin, pause and ask:

“How many more lives can this little pot support?”

🌑♍️ NEW MOON IN VIRGO — September 11 🌿✨

A time to tend, cleanse, simplify & begin again.

The New Moon in Virgo arrives with a gentle invitation to return to the simple things that nourish us. Virgo reminds us that wellness isn’t always found in grand gestures—it is built through the small, loving choices we make each day. 🌱

This is beautiful energy for clearing out what no longer serves us, creating healthy routines, tending our gardens, nourishing our bodies, and bringing a little more intention into our everyday lives.

Virgo is an Earth sign, connected with the wisdom of the harvest and the sacred work of tending. As we move toward the Autumn Equinox, we can ask:

🌿 What needs pruning from my life?
🌿 What habits are ready for renewal?
🌿 Where can I create more balance and simplicity?
🌿 What am I cultivating for the season ahead?

🌿 A Virgo New Moon Herbal Ritual

Create a simple cup of lemon balm, chamomile & rosemary tea.

🌿 Lemon Balm — traditionally cherished for calming and uplifting the spirit
🌼 Chamomile — a gentle herb associated with peace, rest and relaxation
🌿 Rosemary — traditionally associated with remembrance, clarity and protection

As your tea steeps, step outside if you can. Feel the earth beneath your feet. Notice the plants, birds, insects and tiny signs of life around you.

Take three slow breaths and set one simple intention for the lunar cycle ahead.

“I tend what matters.
I release what no longer serves me.
I nourish what I wish to grow.” 🌱

May this Virgo New Moon remind us that the sacred is found in the everyday—in tending the garden, preparing nourishing food, making herbal medicine, caring for our bodies, and simply pausing long enough to notice the beauty growing all around us.

🌑🌿 Happy New Moon from The Happy Herbal Kitchen!
May this new cycle bring you clarity, grounding, nourishment and abundant growth. ✨

Gathering the Seeds of Autumn at The Happy Herbal Kitchen 🍂🌿
Save those seeds in paper bags or envelopes and keep them somewhere cool and dry!
There’s a subtle shift happening in the garden… the days are still warm, but the light has begun to soften, the evenings whisper of cooler nights, and the first hints of autumn are creeping in. 🌻🍁

And this is one of my favorite times in the herbal garden — seed-collecting season! ✨

Before we say goodbye to this year’s blooms, we can gather a little of their abundance to carry forward into another growing season.

🌸 Zinnia — Zinnia elegans
Let those beautiful flower heads dry on the plant, then collect the tiny seeds tucked inside. Zinnias are generous self-seeders and wonderful pollinator plants.

🐝 Bee Balm — Monarda spp.
As the flower heads dry and turn brown, the little seed capsules begin to reveal themselves. Collect them when they are fully mature and dry.

💜 Datura — Datura spp.
These fascinating plants produce distinctive spiny seed pods. Handle with extreme care — all parts of Datura are highly poisonous if ingested. Wear gloves when harvesting and keep seeds safely away from children and pets.

🌿 Hyssop — Hyssopus officinalis
Once the flowers fade and the seed heads dry, gently gather the mature seeds. Hyssop has a long history in traditional herbalism and makes a beautiful addition to the garden.

🌿 Tulsi / Holy Basil — Ocimum tenuiflorum
Allow the flower stalks to dry before harvesting. Those tiny dark seeds hold the promise of next summer’s fragrant Tulsi plants. 💚

🌿 Basil — Ocimum basilicum
Don’t be too quick to cut those last flowers! Let them go to seed, dry completely, and collect the little black seeds for next year’s kitchen and herbal garden.

🌺 Hibiscus — Hibiscus sabdariffa
As the calyces mature and dry, seeds develop inside the fruiting structures. Save the mature, fully dried seeds for another season.

🌳 Vitex — Vitex agnus-castus
Those lovely clusters of berries eventually dry and contain seeds that can be collected once mature. Vitex is a wonderful reminder that the herbal garden is always thinking ahead.

✨ A little seed-saving wisdom:
Choose healthy, vigorous plants for seed saving whenever possible. Harvest on a dry day, allow seed heads to finish drying thoroughly, label everything with the plant name and botanical name, and store your seeds somewhere cool, dark, and dry.

There is something deeply magical about holding a handful of tiny seeds and realizing that within them is the possibility of an entire garden. 🌱

Autumn teaches us that gathering is part of letting go… and every ending carries the promise of beginning again. 🍂🌙

What seeds are you gathering from your garden this year? 🌿💚
