We are going to be the friend who tells you the thing you maybe do not want to hear — if you just got engaged and you think you have plenty of time to figure out vendors, the timeline is tighter than you think.

This is especially true in Western New York.

Buffalo and Rochester are not year round markets. The overwhelming majority of WNY couples get married between May and October — which means hundreds of couples are competing for roughly 25 peak season Saturdays per year. September and October go first. And the best vendors fill those dates fast.

The short version — your venue locks your date so book it first and book it early. Your photographer is next because the most talented ones in WNY are fielding inquiries 12 to 18 months out. Then your DJ, your florist with the aesthetic you have been saving on Pinterest for six months, and your hair and makeup artist if you have a large bridal party.

You do not need to have everything figured out to start reaching out. You do not even need your budget fully locked. Initial inquiries cost nothing and give you availability information before you fall in love with someone who is already booked on your date.

The worst thing they can say is that your date is taken. And it is so much better to know that now.
