I’m 44, running a handmade soap business in Brooklyn for 6 years and I’m not ashamed to admit that…

The work mode never really turns off.

Owning a small business isn’t a job you leave at the shop. During dinner, vacations, or before bed, I’m still thinking about inventory, customer emails, payroll, new ideas, and tomorrow’s to-do list.

You wear every hat.

On any given day, I’m a soap maker, photographer, marketer, accountant, customer service rep, inventory manager, social media creator, and CEO. If something needs to be done, it’s probably me doing it.

A beautiful shop takes invisible work.

Customers see a peaceful, beautiful store. They don’t see the hours spent cleaning, restocking shelves, watering plants, organizing inventory, packing orders, and making sure everything is ready before we open.

Every day is different.

Some days the shop is full. Other days are much quieter. Running a small business has taught me to appreciate every customer, stay patient, and keep showing up no matter what.

Every order still makes me smile.

Even after tens of thousands of customers, I still get excited every time Shopify sends a notification or someone chooses Mumu Bath. Knowing something we made by hand becomes part of someone’s daily routine never gets old.

The work continues after closing.

When the doors close, the second shift begins. I answer emails, update the website, develop new products, review sales, prepare wholesale orders, and get ready to do it all again tomorrow.

My daughter and my business have grown up together.

I started Mumu Bath when Regina was just a baby. Watching them both grow has taught me patience, resilience, and that the most meaningful things in life take time.

I’d choose this life again.

Building Mumu Bath has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but also the most rewarding. Thank you for supporting small businesses. Every visit, every order, and every kind word means more than you know. ❤️
