A three-pot autumn balcony refresh

Flowers aren't the only way to give a small balcony its autumn color.

Use containers with drainage holes, check moisture before watering, and lift outdoor pots on suitable pot feet so water can escape. Leave a comfortable walking route and room to use your chair.

Clean off outdoor debris and keep the returning plant apart from your established indoor collection for a couple of weeks while you watch for problems. If you find pests, identify them before choosing a treatment.

Plan its indoor spot around the light it needs. And check the potting mix before watering: the routine that worked outdoors may need adjusting inside.
