On this rooftop patio, a linear LED beneath the handrail catches the moment, perfectly illuminating the plants with a soft, even wash that feels natural rather than imposed. The city beyond fades. The garden comes forward.

This is what thoughtful lighting design makes possible: a seamless transition from one experience to another.

The turnbuckles on the East Potomac Mini Golf course may seem like a minor component, but they serve an important purpose: they allow for fine-tuning of the fixture height during installation and provide the ability to make future adjustments as the wire expands over time.

It is the kind of detail that ensures the system remains taut, functional, and visually consistent for years to come.

For the East Potomac Mini Golf course, using barnlights was deliberate.

The barnlight fixture grounds the project in historic authenticity, respecting the site's legacy and architectural character. Yet beneath that familiar form, an LED light source brings a new energy: crisp, efficient, and capable of transforming the ordinary into something memorable.

The result is a space that feels both timeless and alive.

A closer look at the concession stand lighting at East Potomac Mini Golf Course.

The ceiling-mounted barnlights were selected to balance historic character with modern freshness. Their form echoes the catenary lighting seen throughout the course, while their placement within the building's architecture creates a warm, inviting focal point.

We are proud to share East Potomac Mini Golf project, a collaboration led by Moody Graham in partnership with National Links Trust and the National Park Service, has received two significant honors from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA):

2026 Honor Award in General Design from ASLA-MD, recognizing the project's thoughtful balance of history, ecology, and community.

2026 Merit Award in Historical Preservation from Potomac ASLA, honoring the careful reimagining of this historic space while respecting its legacy.

Olson Weaver was privileged to contribute to this exceptional project, providing energy-efficient, dark-sky friendly LED lighting that complements the site's sustainable landscape features, including permeable paving, biofiltration, and heritage tree protection.

This recognition is a testament to what is possible when design, history, and environmental stewardship come together.

Pathlights are the thread that weaves a landscape together after dark.

They connect the entry to the garden, the patio to the pool, the drive to the door. Without them, the composition risks feeling fragmented, points of light with no relationship to one another.

Thoughtful placement creates continuity. Continuity creates calm.

Landscape lighting sets the stage. Table lanterns set the mood.

One without the other feels incomplete in this stunning backyard. Together, they create a composition that feels complete. Not overlit. Not underlit. Simply right for the evening ahead.

Some of the most dramatic landscape lighting begins at ground level.

An uplight hidden in the grass draws the eye upward, through grass and leaves, creating depth and shadow where daylight offers only flatness. The fixture itself asks for no attention. The result asks for nothing more than a second glance.

A home's architecture does not end at sunset. It simply waits for a different kind of light.

Thoughtfully placed illumination reveals what daylight cannot: the texture of stone, the rhythm of windows, the quiet strength of a roofline. These elements exist whether the sun is present or not. Lighting simply makes them visible.

The result is a property that feels as composed by night as it does by day.
