Culture comes first in our name for a reason.
Black hair holds history, creativity, tradition, identity, and connection. From techniques passed down through generations to the community created in barbershops and salons, hair has always been about more than the finished style.
At C3, we celebrate that culture while creating space for more people to understand it, learn from it, and feel connected through it.
Because when we understand where something comes from, we can appreciate everything it carries with it.
Culture. Curls. Confidence. It’s more than our name. It’s why we’re here.

Curls are in our name, but they represent so much more than one texture or curl pattern.
Coils. Waves. Braids. Locs. Twists. Fades. Protective styles. Natural hair. The knowledge, creativity, care, and traditions connected to them all.
At C3, we believe everyone deserves access to the knowledge and resources needed to understand, care for, and celebrate textured hair.
Because hair can be personal, but the knowledge behind it was meant to be shared.
Culture. Curls. Confidence. It’s more than our name. It’s why we’re here.

For us, confidence is about more than liking the way your hair looks.
It’s feeling seen. Feeling represented. Having the knowledge to care for yourself and the freedom to show up fully as who you are.
Because confidence might start in the chair, but it doesn’t stay there.
This month, we’re breaking down the three words behind C3 and what each one means to the work we do.
Culture. Curls. Confidence. It’s more than our name. It’s why we’re here.

🖤💚💛❤️ Culture in the Valley returns.
Some spaces entertain us.
Some spaces restore us.
Culture in the Valley was created to do both.
Join People of Progression for our 3rd Annual Culture in the Valley—a free community celebration where culture, creativity, wellness, and connection come together.
Through live music, DJs, spoken word, dance, visual art, local vendors, food, youth activities, and healing experiences, we celebrate the richness of Black culture and the many communities of the African diaspora while welcoming neighbors from every background.
Culture has always been more than entertainment.
For generations, rhythm, movement, storytelling, art, and music have helped us celebrate joy, carry grief, strengthen identity, and stay connected to one another. When we create spaces where people feel seen, valued, and like they belong, we strengthen one of the greatest protective factors for mental health: connection.
That is why Culture in the Valley centers community wellness and su***de prevention.
We believe prevention begins long before a crisis. It begins with checking on one another. Sharing a meal. Dancing together. Supporting local artists. Laughing with neighbors. Creating spaces where young people know they belong, families build relationships, and community members are reminded they never have to carry life's burdens alone.
Healing is collective.
Culture is powerful.
Community saves lives.

A haircut lasts a few weeks.
The conversations last a lifetime.
For generations, the barbershop has been a place where boys learn who they are, where culture is shared, confidence is built, and wisdom is passed from one generation to the next.
Today we honor the fathers and father figures doing that work every day: leading by example, showing up consistently, and helping the next generation stand a little taller.
Happy Father’s Day to the men shaping more than hairstyles.
You’re shaping futures.
