Keratosis pilaris is not a surface problem. It is a follicle problem.

Keratin — the same protein that makes up your hair and nails — builds up inside the hair follicle and plugs it from the inside. The bump you see on the surface is that plug.

Type 1 KP is purely keratin, no pigmentation. It responds well to chemical exfoliation — AHAs and BHAs that dissolve the plug from within.

Physical scrubbing only touches the surface. The plug remains. Which is why the bumps always come back.
