Heavy fighting erupted in Wuno Payam, Lekuangole County, within the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) on the morning of Sunday, April 26, 2026, and continued through Monday, April 27, 2026. The assault was allegedly carried out by the Lou Nuer White Army and forces linked to the SPLM/A-IO

Incident Summary

Attackers: Reports identify the assailants as members of the Lou Nuer White Army, a predominant militia from Jonglei State, alongside SPLM/A-IO fighters.

Location: The primary focus of the clashes was Wuno village (Wuno Payam), situated in Lekuangole County.

Resistance: Local Murle youth (cattle herders) mobilized to defend the area, reportedly forcing the attackers to flee into the bush.

Casualties: As of yesterday, authorities have not confirmed specific casualty numbers, though local youth continue to confront remaining attackers.

Displacement: GPAA Information Minister Jacob Werchum confirmed that the assault forced numerous families to flee their homes, creating a new wave of displacement.

Current Status

Volatility: The environment remains highly volatile as local youth are still seeking out the remaining assailants.

Official Response: GPAA authorities have condemned the attack and called for national government intervention to protect civilians in the area.

Security Warnings: Residents are being urged by local officials to remain alert and avoid known "danger zones" while security establishes control.

I’ve truly valued the chance to learn from the Ministry and grow my skills in the Directorate role.

We will never vote in this coming 2026 general election if GPAA is not granted full responsibilities with independent electoral comission in South Sudan

We glorify God that Agut Nyikcho, who went missing in Pibor 72 hours ago, has escaped and been reunited with his parents in Lekuangole yesterday.

Agut was abducted by unidentified men at the Pibor River banks on Saturday, 5th December 2025, when he had gone to take a shower at the river. The criminals grabbed him, tied him up, and severely beat him before leading him into the dark forests of Ngarwalim Payam.

Agut Nyikcho Aliparok, whose father is a member of the Lekuangole County Representative Council, is a Uganda Certificate of Secondary Education holder with excellent aggregates. He came to South Sudan last year to look for tuition fees so he could pursue his university education. He is young and unaware of the dangers happening in the area.

We call upon the government and all people of goodwill to stand firm and stop the continued abduction of students. This is not just an abduction. It deeply wounds families who are hoping to see a better future for their children.
