We’ve officially reached the point where hearing your spouse’s voice on the phone isn’t enough proof that it’s actually them.

That sounds ridiculous until you realize voice-cloning scams are already here.

A scammer can take a short audio clip, imitate someone you know, and create just enough panic to make you stop thinking clearly.

That’s the part that worries me most.

Not because people are stupid.

Because hearing the voice of your wife, husband, kid, or parent instantly lowers your guard.

This is probably one of those things families need to talk about BEFORE it happens.

Have a code word. Call the person back directly. Verify before sending money, giving card information, or doing anything else.

We used to tell people not to trust random emails.

Now apparently we have to tell them not to automatically trust familiar voices either.
