If you have ever saved a nail photo you love but thought, “I like it, but I would want it a little more me,” that is exactly where bespoke work comes in.

This client set was inspired by my Art Gallery competition set. We kept the same colours and overall design direction, but adapted it into a shorter, wearable version and left out the portrait detail.

The colours, length, shape and detail all need to work for the person wearing them. Even when a design begins with a reference, it can be adjusted through the conversation and the choices we make together.

That is how inspiration becomes something personal.

Dark nails are not one look.

They can be clean and minimal, soft and smoky, detailed and dramatic, botanical, metallic or inspired by another world entirely.

The colour palette may set the mood, but the person wearing the nails is what gives the design its direction.

Which version of dark feels most like you?

October has started with deeper colours, fresh ideas and a lot happening behind the scenes.

After Dark is not about forcing every set into one style. It is about exploring contrast, mood and the details that appear when an idea is given room to develop.

Whether you choose black, burgundy, navy or something barely there, the same things still matter, careful preparation, the right product for your nails, safe application and proper removal.

The colour is the creative choice. Looking after the natural nail is part of the service behind it.

What a way to finish 10 weeks of Amp It Up!
Last night we celebrated the 2026 Amp It Up cohort with our Celebration Pitch Night, bringing together local entrepreneurs who have spent the past 10 weeks working through their businesses, testing their ideas and getting clearer on what comes next.

Some of these businesses are already up and running, while others are still bringing their ideas to life, so it was fantastic to see each founder share where they’re at and what they’re working towards.
A special mention also goes to Matthew from Resilience Coaching, who completed the programme but was unfortunately unwell and unable to join us last night.
It has been fantastic to watch this group develop over the past 10 weeks. Each business is at a different stage and has a different story, but they’ve all put in the work, asked the hard questions and taken the next steps towards building their businesses.
A massive thank you to everyone who has supported Amp It Up this year, including our fantastic guest speakers who generously shared their experiences, lessons and business wisdom with the cohort.
And of course, a huge congratulations to the cohort. Starting or growing a business takes plenty of courage, hard work and persistence, and you should all be proud of what you’ve achieved.
We’re looking forward to seeing where you take things from here. Congratulations, everyone!

A Little Sunday Catch-Up

Another week at RKW done, and there’s been a bit of everything happening behind the scenes.

We’ve talked about where my ideas come from, had a peek at what really happens at my nail desk, and hopefully made some of those nail service choices a little easier to understand.

There’s also been plenty of creating, learning and ideas quietly taking shape in the background.

And that little book-inspired project I’ve been hinting at?

It’s getting closer.

Next week we’re getting a little more into the artistry behind RKW, including practice, progress and what goes into creating the finished nails you see.

Gel Polish, Builder Gel or Acrylic: What’s the Difference?

If you’ve ever looked at a nail service menu and wondered which option is right for you, you’re definitely not alone.

Gel polish - gives you long-lasting colour over your natural nails. It’s a great option when you’re happy with your natural nail length and don’t need additional structure.

Builder gel - adds extra strength and structure to the natural nail. BIAB is one example of a builder gel, and it can be a great choice when your natural nails need a little more support.

Acrylic - is an enhancement system that can be used over your natural nails or to create extensions when you want additional strength or length.

There isn’t one option that’s automatically better than the others. The right choice depends on your natural nails, your lifestyle and what you want from your nails.

And if you have no idea which one you need, that’s okay. You don’t need to become a nail tech just to book an appointment.
