The world is not nice. Know this and know peace. Honestly, at this point, nothing anyone does should shock you.

Sometime ago, I went to meet someone about a particular space in her area. I wanted to start something there to assist myself as a fresh graduate and have another source of income.

When I told her what I wanted to use the space for, she was actually impressed. She said, “Oh wow, I’m impressed. With the way the country is now, it’s good to have multiple streams of income.”

I explained everything to her. I told her exactly what I wanted to do there.

Less than three days later, this woman started doing the exact thing I told her I wanted to do.

And it’s not like she was giving me the space for free. I was going to pay for it.

I went back to meet her because I didn’t want to conclude anything in my heart without hearing from her directly. She simply told me she had changed her mind. Since she wasn’t doing anything at home, she felt she could start the business herself because the place was busy.

Omo, I don’t even want to go into the full details of the story, but honestly, it made me think.

Why do we tell people every single thing we plan to do? Why do we feel everyone who listens to our ideas genuinely wants to see us succeed? Why do we give people the full blueprint of our plans before we even start?

Sometimes, you really have to move differently.

Not everyone needs to know your next move. Not because you are wicked or secretive, but because you have to learn to protect the things you are building.

The world is not nice. People will surprise you. People will disappoint you. Some people will take what you told them and run with it.

So, learn to keep some things to yourself. Not every plan needs an announcement. Sometimes, just work quietly and let people see the result when it’s already done.

Because honestly, some things are better kept between you, your God, and your plans.

The worst judgment you can give to those who don’t wish you well is to do well.

Yes, do well.

The most painful thing you can do to people who have already concluded that nothing good will come out of you is to prove them wrong by becoming better.

They think you don’t know what you’re doing with your life. They feel you’re not going anywhere. They look at you and think, “Can he or she really do this?” They belittle you. They use all kinds of condescending words on you, just to make you feel behind, just to make you see yourself as less than you truly are.

But do you know what the worst thing you can do to them is?

Do more.

Become better.

Grow.

Stand out.

Don’t shrink yourself for anybody. Don’t reduce yourself just because someone doesn’t see your worth. Choose yourself. Become the person you know you are capable of becoming.

If it’s what you like doing, do it.
If it’s what you like saying, say it.
If it’s how you like dressing, dress well.
Be where you’re supposed to be.
Speak up. Learn. Read books. Build your skills. Go online. Make research. Ask questions. Network with people. Talk to people who are more knowledgeable than you. Learn from those who are ahead of you.

Why should you remain the same just because someone has already decided who you are?

Why should you hide your potential because someone doesn’t believe in you?

Why should you allow someone else’s opinion to become your reality?

This is a new month.

Don’t enter this month with the same mindset, the same excuses, and the same fear.

Challenge yourself.

Do something different.
Learn something new.
Build yourself.
Show up for yourself.
Take your dreams seriously.
Be intentional about your growth.

And above all, be you.

You don’t have to fight everyone who doubts you. You don’t have to explain yourself to everyone who has already made up their mind about you.

Just keep growing.

Let them watch.

Let them wonder.

Let them ask, “When did he or she become this good?”

The answer is simple: You chose yourself. You refused to shrink. You kept learning, kept growing, and kept showing up.

This month, stand out.

Become better.

Do more.

And whatever you do, don’t let anyone convince you that you are less than you are.

It is easy to look holy in church. It is easy to shout “Amen,” speak in tongues, prophesy, lead prayers, and quote Scripture. But the true measure of faith is what happens when nobody is watching.

Holiness is not a title. Holiness is a daily decision.

Every believer has a flesh that must be brought under the control of the Holy Spirit. The strongest Christian is not the one who claims never to be tempted, but the one who recognizes temptation, chooses wisdom, and runs from sin.

There is no shame in admitting your weakness. There is danger in pretending you have none.

I have noticed something about my mum.

Anytime she wakes up in the morning and sees me, the first thing I do is tell her sweet words.

“Ahhh Mummy, you too fine o! Fine girl! Fine woman!”

And she will just smile from ear to ear.

Sometimes, while I’m washing dishes, she will come from behind and tickle me. Before she leaves for work, she will stand in front of her mirror and look at herself over and over again, smiling.

Then when she comes back from work that day, she will bring my favourite chocolate, snacks and fruits.

This thing has happened so many times that I have even lost count.

And honestly, it got me thinking.

If ordinary human beings can be happy because of the sweet words we say to them, and they can even go out of their way to do something nice for us because of those words, how much more God?

If my mum can be so happy when I tell her how beautiful she is, how much more God when we tell Him how good He is?

Why do we always remember God only when we need something?

Why do we complain and say, “God, why is my life like this?” when things are hard?

What if we just thank Him first?

What if we praise Him even when things are not going the way we want?

What if we say, “God, I don’t understand what is happening right now, but I still trust You”?

The Bible says, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise.” — Psalm 100:4

Sometimes, before you ask God for another thing, just stop and thank Him for the things you already have.

Thank Him for life.
Thank Him for keeping you.
Thank Him for the things you can see and even the ones you cannot see.

Because the truth is, if you think about it, you will realise that God has already done so much for you.

So today, instead of complaining about what is missing, take a moment and tell God:

“Thank You, Lord. You have been good to me.”
