THIS EXPERIENCE CHANGED HOW I LOOK AT FRAGRANCE

A few days after I opened my physical store, something happened, the reed diffuser we had on the table accidentally spilled on the floor.

Almost immediately, the whole store became heavily scented.

This was a diffuser that was meant to release fragrance gradually and make the space smell nice, but after it spilled, the smell became so strong that we couldn’t comfortably stay inside.

Our eyes were literally peppering and the fragrance was choking, so we had to stay outside for most of that day, especially the children.

We cleaned everything, but the smell was still very strong. Even the following day, there was only a little improvement.

It took about 3–4 days before we could comfortably stay inside the store again.

And this really made me think…

What we experienced that day may be very uncomfortable for one person, while another person may not notice much of a problem with the same level of fragrance exposure.

Some people have been living with very strong fragrances around them every day - in their cars, homes, offices and even on their bodies.

This is why I believe moderation is important

You don’t have to drown yourself, your children, your car or your room in fragrance before it smells good.

A little can be enough

Let’s enjoy our fragrances, but let’s also be mindful of how much we use and how much we are exposed to, especially in enclosed spaces.

All excess is not good

And as we take the necessary precautions, let’s continue to pray for good health and protection from Allah.

May Allah protect us and our families from illnesses and grant healing to everyone who is currently sick. Aameen.

LET’S TALK ABOUT FRAGRANCE SAFELY

With all the conversations about cancer and perfumes going around lately, I honestly wanted to mind my business because I’m not a medical professional. But as someone who sells fragrances, I feel it is important to say this:

Please, let’s not make this conversation only about fake perfumes.

There is another part we should talk about too, excessive exposure to fragrances.

Perfume is meant to make you smell good, not to make you choke on fragrance.

Whether a fragrance is expensive, cheap, natural or synthetic, more is not always better. Fragranced products can release chemicals into the air, and for some people, especially those who are sensitive or have asthma, strong fragrance exposure can cause irritation or breathing problems.

So please, you don’t need to empty half a bottle of perfume on yourself before people know you smell good.

Use your fragrance moderately. Don’t deliberately spray excessive amounts in enclosed spaces, and if you’re using room sprays, air fresheners, candles or other scented products, proper ventilation matters.

And if you notice that a particular fragrance gives you headaches, irritation, coughing, wheezing or breathing difficulty, don’t ignore it. Reduce your exposure and speak with a healthcare professional if the symptoms persist.

At the same time, let’s be careful about saying “perfume causes cancer.” Cancer has many causes and risk factors, and exposure to a particular chemical does not automatically mean that using a perfume will cause cancer.

Moderation and proper use matter

Let’s stop abusing fragrances, let’s buy from reputable sources, let’s use products according to their instructions, and let’s keep our spaces properly ventilated.

And as Muslims, while we take reasonable precautions, we should also keep praying for good health and protection.

May Allah protect us and our families from illnesses, known and unknown, and grant healing to everyone currently battling any form of sickness. Aameen
