Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver, most often caused by viral infections (hepatitis A, B, C, D, or E), though it can also result from heavy alcohol use, toxins, certain medications, or autoimmune conditions. It can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-lasting), with symptoms ranging from mild fatigue and nausea to jaundice, abdominal pain, and in severe cases, liver failure. Some forms, like hepatitis A, usually resolve on their own, while others, like chronic hepatitis B or C, can lead to serious long-term liver damage if untreated.
