From Fertility Uncertainty to Twin Motherhood: A Journey of Strength, Birth, and Breastfeeding

From Fertility Uncertainty to Twin Motherhood: A Journey of Strength, Birth, and Breastfeeding

After a long and emotionally complex road to conception, Olivia’s path to motherhood unfolded in ways she never expected — ultimately leading to the arrival of two healthy babies and a deep sense of pride in how far she’d come.

Olivia and her partner had been trying for a while when testing revealed she had a low ovarian reserve, confirmed through an AMH blood test. With concerns about time and fertility, they sought guidance from a specialist. Ironically, it was during a moment of letting go — when she stopped tracking ovulation so closely — that everything changed. A pregnancy test came back positive.

The surprise intensified at her first ultrasound.

“I woke up the next day and cried all day,” she said. “Everything I thought pregnancy and motherhood would look like changed instantly.”

Adjusting to a Twin Pregnancy

At the time, the couple were living in a small workers’ cottage. The reality of twins quickly prompted a house hunt, as they prepared for life with double everything. Olivia registered for care at Royal Women’s Hospital, joining the multiple birth team, and set a clear goal: if both babies were head-down, she wanted to attempt a vaginal birth.

By 28 weeks, the physical demands of carrying twins became impossible to ignore. Persistent lower back pain and exhaustion forced her to slow down. She began physiotherapy and shifted her focus toward mental preparation for birth. As anxiety crept in, she sought support from a perinatal psychologist — care that continued well into the postpartum period.

Labour, Decisions, and Trusting Her Body

Induction was scheduled for 37 weeks and three days. The process began with a balloon catheter, followed by rupturing her waters and starting a syntocinon drip. When monitoring showed repeated dips in Baby Juno’s heart rate, an emergency caesarean was raised as a possibility.

Instead, Olivia changed positions, working side-lying with the support of an epidural. The adjustments stabilised the situation, allowing labour to progress to full dilation. Once she reached 10cm, the room filled with clinicians in anticipation of the twin delivery.

Remy was born first. During labour, Juno flipped into a breech position, but she was delivered safely soon after. Weighing 2.7kg and 2.2kg, both babies were healthy, though Juno’s smaller size meant her weight was closely monitored before discharge.

The Long Road to Feeding Confidence

The early weeks at home were intense. Feeding felt relentless, and Olivia adopted a flexible, responsive approach — combining breastfeeding, expressed milk, and formula top-ups. While Remy fed well from the beginning, Juno struggled with latching, requiring specialist input and months of persistence.

There were moments when quitting felt tempting, but Olivia kept going.

By three months, both twins were exclusively breastfeeding — a milestone that felt hard-won and deeply rewarding.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

Now nine months into life with twins, Olivia reflects on the journey with a sense of calm and accomplishment.

“The logistics are so much easier now,” she said. “And breastfeeding has become such a beautiful way to have that one-on-one connection with each of them.”

From fertility fears to twin birth, mental health support, and perseverance through feeding challenges, Olivia’s story is one of adaptability and resilience — a reminder that parenthood doesn’t have to follow the original plan to become something profoundly meaningful.

“For me, it was about sustainability,” she said. “Looking after my body during pregnancy made recovery feel more manageable afterward.”

Tammy Hembrow Opens Up About Her Post-Baby Fitness Comeback

Australian fitness trainer and influencer Tammy Hembrow has shared how consistent habits before and after pregnancy helped her feel strong and confident following the birth of her second child.

The 22-year-old mum, who has amassed millions of followers on Instagram, welcomed her daughter Saskia in August. Soon after, fans began commenting on how quickly she appeared to regain her toned physique — something Hembrow says was the result of preparation rather than pressure.

In a YouTube video addressing the curiosity, Hembrow explained that she focused on nutrition and movement throughout her pregnancy.

“What made the biggest difference was how I ate and trained while I was pregnant,” she said. “I stuck to really clean food — lots of vegetables and protein — and saved treats for the weekends. During the week, I kept things consistent.”

Alongside mindful eating, Hembrow maintained an active routine, working out around four times a week while also caring for her 18-month-old son, Wolf. Staying active, she said, helped set realistic expectations for recovery after birth.

“I knew I wanted to feel good in my body afterward,” she explained. “So I tried to support myself by staying active during pregnancy.”

Following delivery, Hembrow used a postpartum waist binder supplied by the hospital for about a week. She believes it provided support during early recovery and helped her core feel more stable before returning to exercise.

“You don’t leave the hospital looking exactly the same,” she noted. “I didn’t rush anything, but once I was home, I focused on eating well, wore the binder, and waited about six weeks before easing back into workouts.”

Hembrow emphasizes that her approach wasn’t about “bouncing back,” but about maintaining habits that supported her health long term.

“For me, it was about sustainability,” she said. “Looking after my body during pregnancy made recovery feel more manageable afterward.”
