ishga Skin Care
Award winning, results-driven organic skincare, made with antioxidant-rich Hebridean seaweed 🌱 The name ishga is derived from the Gaelic word for water.
The pure, clean waters of the Hebridean Islands off the north west coast of Scotland is home to ishga, and where we sustainably hand harvest the seaweed that's at the heart of our skincare range. Hebridean seaweed contains natural antioxidants with properties which transform and protect tired or aging skin. ishga has developed a bespoke process to extract its natural goodness, harnessing an abundance of vitamins and minerals to create a remarkable range of products. It's the secret to younger, healthier skin - let us share it with you.

You might have spotted these terms when reading about skincare, but what do they actually do?
Humectants 💧
Act as moisture magnets, helping the skin attract and hold onto hydration.
Look for: Hyaluronic acid | Glycerin | Aloe vera
Emollients 🌱
Help fill the spaces between skin cells with lipids, leaving skin feeling softer and helping support its protective barrier.
Look for: Shea butter | Jojoba oil | Sweet almond oil
Occlusives 🧴
Form a protective layer over the skin, helping to reduce the amount of water that escapes from its surface.
Look for: Shea butter | Cocoa butter | Coconut oil
From attracting hydration to softening the skin and helping prevent moisture loss, each plays a different role in supporting a healthy skin barrier.

Our skin is made up of different layers, each with its own important role ↓
The Skin Barrier | The first line of defence
Sitting at the very surface of the epidermis, the skin barrier helps keep moisture in and external irritants out.
The Epidermis | Where skincare does most of its work
The epidermis is the skin’s outermost layer. It continually renews itself and plays an essential role in protecting and maintaining hydration.
The Dermis | The skin’s support system
Home to collagen and elastin, alongside blood vessels - these structures help give skin its strength, elasticity and resilience.
The Hypodermis | Cushioning from within
Largely made up of fat and connective tissue, this layer helps cushion and insulate the body, while connecting the skin to the structures beneath it.
This World Mental Health Day, take 30 seconds with us to close your eyes and listen to the calming sounds of the Hebrides.
