🌿 Maybe You Need More... 🌿

Lately, I've noticed an increase in the number of clients coming to therapy feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, burnt out, disconnected from themselves, or wondering why everything feels so hard.

Many arrive believing they need to do more, achieve more, cope better, push harder, or keep everyone else happy.

But when we slow things down together, something interesting often happens.

They begin to realise they don't need permission to slow down.

They don't need to earn rest.

They don't need to wait until they're completely overwhelmed before looking after themselves.

And often, what they need isn't more effort.

It may be more...

✨ Mindfulness.
✨ Time for themselves.
✨ Joy in everyday moments.
✨ Nature, fresh air, and slower days.
✨ Meaningful connections.
✨ Self-kindness and self-belief.
✨ Calm and less noise.
✨ What feels good, rather than what they think they should do.
✨ Rest and gentle mornings.
✨ Space to simply be themselves.
✨ Simple pleasures.
✨ Boundaries and saying no.
✨ More doing what lights them up.
✨ Trust in themselves and the process.
✨ A life that feels like their own.

Sometimes healing isn't about adding more.

Sometimes it's about creating space for what truly matters and giving yourself permission to care for yourself before burnout forces you to.

"But hey, things happen..."

…says the person who has just casually described something that would stop most people in their tracks.

Sometimes this isn't resilience.

Sometimes it's survival.

Many of us learned to brush past our pain because there wasn't space for it when it happened. Maybe everyone around us minimised it. Maybe we were told to "get on with it". Maybe acknowledging how much it hurt felt too overwhelming.

So we tell the story with a laugh. We shrug. We change the subject. We end with, "but it was ages ago", or "others had it worse".

Yet our nervous system often tells a different story.

If you've ever shared something deeply painful and immediately downplayed it, please know this:

✨ Your experience matters.

✨ Your pain doesn't need to compete with anyone else's.

✨ What happened to you doesn't have to be "bad enough" to deserve compassion.

You don't have to minimise your story to make other people comfortable.

Sometimes healing begins when we stop saying "it's fine" and start saying "actually, that was really hard."

⭐️ ANXIETY COPING TECHNIQUE: TRY "MAYBE"

Anxiety loves certainty.

It wants answers right now. It wants guarantees. It wants to know exactly what will happen next.

The trouble is, most of the things we worry about are things we simply can't know for sure. So when your anxious mind starts asking:

🌿 "What if I fail?"

🌿 "What if they don't like me?"

🌿 "What if something goes wrong?"

Try responding with:

🌿 "Maybe it will happen. Maybe it won't."

You're not being negative. You're not giving up. You're simply stepping out of the exhausting struggle to find certainty where certainty doesn't exist.

"Maybe" creates space.

Space to stop arguing with anxious thoughts. Space to let uncertainty be there. Space to focus on what's happening right now, rather than what might happen in the future.

Anxiety says: "I need to know."

Maybe says: "I don't know, and I can cope with that."

Sometimes peace comes not from finding the answer, but from letting go of the need for one.

⭐️ Feeling overwhelmed? Try the R.A.P.I.D. Method

When emotions run high, it's easy to react quickly and say or do something we'll later wish we'd handled differently.

The good news? You don't have to solve everything immediately.

Instead, try the R.A.P.I.D. Method:

R – Relax
Take a slow, deep breath.
Drop your shoulders. Unclench your jaw.
When your body settles, your mind can think more clearly.

A – Accept
Notice what you're feeling without criticising yourself. Stress, frustration, anxiety, disappointment... it's okay to acknowledge what's there.

P – Pause
Give yourself a moment before responding. A pause isn't avoidance. It's creating space for a more helpful response.

I – Investigate
Gently ask yourself:
β€’ What's going on for me right now?
β€’ What triggered this feeling?
β€’ What do I need in this moment?
β€’ What's the best next step?

D – Decide
Choose a response that aligns with your values, goals and wellbeing. Reacting might feel urgent. Responding is often more effective.

Remember: not every situation needs an immediate answer. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is pause, take a breath, and give yourself a moment to think.

Slow is not weak. Slow is thoughtful.

⭐️ Be selective with your time.

Not because life is short. But because your energy, attention and capacity are precious.

There will always be more opportunities, more demands, more invitations, more goals and more things competing for your time than you can realistically fit into one life.

That's why being selective isn't selfish. It's necessary.

Be selective with your:

🌱 Relationships
🌱 Growth
🌱 Health
🌱 Peace of mind
🌱 Goals
🌱 Learning
🌱 Purpose
🌱 Experiences

The truth is, we often have a long list of things we want to do, achieve, learn and experience.

But our capacity is not unlimited.

Every "yes" is a commitment of time, energy and attention.

When your calendar, mind and nervous system are already full, saying yes to everything can leave you feeling overwhelmed, resentful and disconnected from what matters most.

Being selective isn't about doing less for the sake of it.

It's about creating enough space for the things that genuinely enrich your life.

Choose what aligns with your values. Choose what supports your wellbeing. Choose what helps you grow. Choose what brings meaning, not just busyness.

You don't need the capacity for everything.

You need the courage to protect your capacity for what matters most.

⭐️ Monday Motivation ⭐️

You don't have to have it all figured out.

Not your whole week. Not your whole year. Not your whole life.

Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to know exactly where we're going before we allow ourselves to take a step forward.

But life rarely works that way.

The next step might be making the phone call. Sending the email. Going for the walk. Setting the boundary. Asking for help. Taking a breath.

You don't need a complete roadmap to begin.

Just focus on what's directly in front of you and trust that the path will become clearer as you move.

One small step is still progress.

Be gentle with yourself today. You're allowed to learn as you go.

And he is off!

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ To everyone taking part in the Great Eastern Run today...

Take a moment to appreciate what you've already achieved.

You signed up. You trained when motivation was nowhere to be found. You got out of bed on dark mornings. You kept going through the doubts, the aches, the busy days, and the days when the sofa seemed far more appealing.

Today isn't just about the finish line.

It's about courage. It's about commitment. It's about proving to yourself that you can do hard things.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, jogging with friends, run-walking every mile, or simply hoping to get around the course, your effort matters.

When the race gets tough, remember:

✨ One step is still progress.
✨ Slowing down is not giving up.
✨ Your worth is not measured by your finish time.

Look around at the thousands of people sharing the same road, the same nerves, and the same determination. You're part of something special today.

Be proud of every mile. Be proud of every breath. Be proud that you showed up.

You've already achieved something incredible.

Now go and enjoy the atmosphere, soak up the support, and let your legs carry you to that finish line.

Run your race. Trust your training. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. You've got this!

β˜• Simple Ways to Fill Your Cup 🌸

In a world that often celebrates being busy, it's easy to overlook the small things that help us feel calm, connected, and more like ourselves.

We can find ourselves waiting for a holiday, a free weekend, or the "perfect" moment to recharge. Yet our wellbeing is often supported by the little moments we create every day. Small acts of mindfulness can gently remind us to slow down, notice what we need, and reconnect with the present moment.

Filling our cup doesn't require a complete life overhaul. Often, it's the simple, everyday choices that help us feel more balanced and grounded.

✨ Write in a journal
✨ Buy yourself fresh flowers
✨ Bake cookies
✨ Declutter a room
✨ Go to dinner with friends
✨ Treat yourself to your favourite latte
✨ Dance to your favourite song
✨ Watch the sunset
✨ Get lost in a good book

Remember, self-care isn't about earning a rest or proving you've worked hard enough. It's about recognising that your wellbeing matters too.

Sometimes filling your cup looks productive. Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly with a coffee, reading a few pages of a book, or watching the sky change colour at sunset.

The goal isn't perfection. The goal is giving yourself moments of care, joy, and connection throughout your day.

⭐️ We keep saying, "It is what it is."

But what is it?

Is it the thing that happened?

The text that never came?

The relationship that changed?

The diagnosis, the redundancy, the argument, the disappointment?

Or is it the reality we're struggling to accept?

Sometimes "it is what it is" isn't giving up.

It's recognising that reality doesn't change because we dislike it.

Acceptance isn't approval.

It doesn't mean you wanted it. It doesn't mean it's fair. It doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

It simply means you're no longer spending all your energy arguing with what already exists.

And when we stop fighting reality, we can finally decide what happens next.

So perhaps the real question isn't:

"What is it?"

It's:

"Now that this is where I am, what do I need?"

A boundary?

Support?

A good cry?

Rest?

A plan?

Acceptance is not the end of the story.

It's often the beginning of moving forward.

⭐️ THINGS THAT CAN HELP WHEN YOU'RE SPIRALLING

When anxiety takes the driver's seat, everything can suddenly feel urgent.

That text. That conversation. That decision. That worst-case scenario your mind has created at 2am.

Before you try to solve everything, try this instead:

🌿 Put your phone down and step away from the message.

🌿 Talk to someone you trust about how you're feeling.

🌿 Ask yourself: "What do I need right now?"

🌿 Keep your hands busy. Fold laundry, w**d the garden, colour, bake, clean, knit, doodle.

🌿 Ask yourself: "What if everything works out?"

🌿 Notice the urge to seek reassurance and see if you can sit with the uncertainty for a little while.

🌿 Put on a familiar comfort show or listen to something soothing.

🌿 Give yourself some time before responding. Not everything needs an immediate reply.

🌿 Remind yourself: "I don't have to solve this right now."

Spiralling minds want certainty. A regulated nervous system needs safety.

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is pause, breathe, and come back to this moment.

One step.

One breath.

One hour at a time.
