Sports massage and remedial treatment can help with muscular tension, stiffness, aches and general overload — especially when things have been building up for a while.

The learning never stops at Magic Touch! 📚💜
After completing my cupping and aromatherapy courses earlier this year, I’m now studying a Level 3 Physiotherapy Assistant course.
I love building on my knowledge of the body, movement and how we support people through our work. There’s always something new to learn—even when it means more screen time and studying between appointments! 😂
A wee look behind the scenes at the studying that goes alongside the hands-on work here at Magic Touch Sports Massage. 💜

🖤 WHY DOES A MUSCLE FEEL TIGHT… EVEN WHEN IT ISN’T ACTUALLY SHORT? 🖤
If stretching fixes it for ten minutes and the tightness comes straight back, the question becomes:
Why is that muscle working so hard?
A muscle can feel tight for lots of reasons, including:
• fatigue
• overload
• weakness
• irritation
• protective muscle guarding
• prolonged sitting or repetitive positions
• increased nervous-system sensitivity
That means the answer is not always “stretch it more.”
Sometimes the muscle is already working overtime to stabilise an area, protect a painful joint, compensate for weakness elsewhere, or cope with repeated strain.
This is why endlessly stretching the same “tight” muscle can sometimes achieve very little.
A better approach is to look at the bigger picture:
What is making that muscle feel like it needs to stay switched on?
Massage can help reduce tension, improve comfort and settle protective guarding, but identifying the reason behind the tightness is what makes treatment more effective.
💜 TIGHT ≠ SHORT

🖤 PAIN DOESN’T ALWAYS EQUAL DAMAGE 🖤
“Two people can have almost identical scans and completely different pain levels.”
That’s because pain is more complicated than simply “something must be damaged.”
Pain is influenced by lots of different things, including:
• tissue irritation
• previous injury
• stress levels
• poor sleep
• muscle guarding
• nervous-system sensitivity
• how long the pain has been present
Sometimes tissues have healed, but the nervous system can stay more sensitive and protective, which means pain may continue even when there is no ongoing major tissue damage.
This is one reason why persistent pain should always be looked at in context rather than judged by pain intensity alone.
Massage may help by reducing muscle guarding, easing sensitivity, improving comfort and helping you move more freely — but proper assessment matters.
💜 Pain is an alarm system, not a damage meter.
If pain is persistent, worsening, or associated with weakness, numbness, significant swelling or other unusual symptoms, it’s important to get it properly assessed.
