Working through some exciting new Design My Family Tree commissions this weekend. This one to celebrate an elder’s milestone birthday.

Today, I want to share an update and a thank you.

For more than 20 years, has been a lifeline for people navigating the heartbreak, hope and uncertainty of fertility challenges, including my own family.

When I founded Design My Family Tree, I made a promise that every commission would do more than celebrate family. It would also support those still trying to grow theirs. That’s why since its founding year in 2018, Design My Family Tree proudly donated from every commission to Fertility Network UK. This much-loved charity’s managed closure marks the end of an extraordinary chapter. The impact it has had on thousands of families across the UK will endure.

As one chapter closes, another begins. I’m delighted that Design My Family Tree will now be supporting Fertility Action. In a remarkably short time, the mighty Katie Rollings and her team have built a charity that’s already making a real difference: supporting people experiencing fertility challenges, advocating for fairer access to fertility care, and helping employers create more fertility-friendly workplaces.

Design My Family Tree’s purpose hasn’t changed. Every commission will continue to celebrate the families we have while helping those still hoping to grow theirs through Fertility Action 🤍, and planting a tree for future generations through the National Trust 🌳.

Thank you, Fertility Network UK. And here’s to the next chapter with Fertility Action.

Gorgeous sunny day trading at with Rammon’s independent record shop DJing for us for the day.

I’m loving conversations with other designer/crafts-makers and especially those that have been making and trading at the market for a decade or many. How has the landscape been shifting? How has their craft adapted? What’s their outlook for the future?

Overall the shift has embraced the intelligence of the human hand and heart. More authentic, more handmade, more traceable (the maker is the trader), more hyper local, more personalised - forms of value that remain resilient to automation and internationalisation.

Another lovely day at Greenwich Market

Photos from DesignMyFamilyTree's post 15/05/2026

As a designer, I’m never really done! Because I learn through doing with others. So of course day 2 of Design My Family Tree at is an iteration.

I didn’t love the stall table on day 1 separating me from the warm conversations with visitors about family ancestry and the ecologies we come from. So I’ve transformed the stall into a cosy nook to discuss personal commissions, rather than a stall for impulsive shopping.

Come find me at Greenwich Market today, or explore the website in your own time, link in bio.

Lovely first day at . Thank you to everyone who visited the Design My Family Tree stall for your awe in the artwork, our chats about fascinating family stories, and your curiosity in this little venture. Thank you also to for cheering me on and keeping me caffeinated, and finally thank you to my stall neighbours both novice and seasoned for making me feel so welcome and for the lovely company. I’m excited that Design My Family Tree passed Greenwich Market’s stall grading inspection from the very first trial day and I can now start trading permanently. That was a pleasant surprise! See some of you next Friday.

📣 Two exciting announcements!

🌟 Market days: Design My Family Tree makes its debut on Friday 1 May, with further Fridays on the 8th and 15th. Market visitors get a cheeky 10% discount code just for showing up.

These are three trial days — after which market management vets whether the business gets a permanent spot. I’m trying not to spiral about it. Mostly I’m treating it as an experiment: test the channel, chat to lovely people, have fun. Low stakes. Probably.

🌟 New website: After years on Etsy, Design My Family Tree now has a shiny, fully independent e-shop. The numbers made the decision: organic traffic and conversion (and I do zero marketing!) was 10x more than Etsy, yet Etsy was still taking a 15–20% cut off every sale. Etsy has also become a race to the bottom in terms of market quality and vetting. I’ve known that I needed to migrate for some time but didn’t have the headspace.

So I took the leap last week. I designed and built the site in a day, tested it over a week with some absolutely wonderful humans (thank you, you made it so much better), and it’s now live! I also owe a small thank-you to Claude (the AI, not a person called Claude) for being an excellent agentic dev assistant — significantly fewer screen-swearing incidents than pre-AI builds.

The best bit? The savings from Etsy fees now go straight to charity — I’ve doubled donations from each order: £10 to and £10 to ‘s tree planting campaign.

🌳 Come find me at Greenwich Market on one of the Fridays, or have a browse through the new site. Feedback always welcome — I mean it!
