A beautiful smile starts with getting the foundations right.
This patient came to me with a particularly deep overbite, upper front teeth that angled significantly inwards, older composite restorations and advanced gum recession.
Rather than simply covering the imperfections, I wanted to address the underlying issues first.
We began with Invisalign to correct her bite and improve the positioning of her teeth, followed by Enlighten Advanced whitening to brighten her smile.
Finally, I used carefully placed composite bonding to disguise the gum recession, cover exposed roots and refine the shape and proportions of her front teeth.
The result? A brighter, more balanced and naturally beautiful smile.
For me, cosmetic dentistry is never just about how teeth look. It’s about understanding their position, function and proportions before making the smallest changes necessary to achieve the best result.

Sometimes, the most impressive smile transformations involve adding very little at all.
This young patient was born without her upper lateral incisors, leaving her canine teeth looking particularly pointed and out of proportion.
Using carefully placed composite bonding, I redesigned the shapes and proportions of her existing teeth to create the appearance of natural lateral incisors and beautifully balanced canines.
No dramatic intervention. Just precise, considered dentistry.
Composite bonding typically lasts around 3–5 years before maintenance or replacement may be needed. Porcelain could also be considered in the future for a longer-lasting solution.
For me, great cosmetic dentistry isn’t about making every smile look the same. It’s about understanding the individual anatomy and creating something that looks like it was always meant to be there.

A smile makeover should still feel like your smile.
For this patient, I placed 20 porcelain veneers, 10 upper and 10 lower, to achieve the significant change in shade he was looking for.
But we made a conscious decision to retain the slight crossbite on the upper right. It was part of the natural character of his smile, and there was no reason to lose that individuality simply for the sake of perfect symmetry.
After more than 30 years in cosmetic dentistry, I believe the best results are designed around the person, rather than a template of what a “perfect” smile should look like.
A significant transformation, but still very much his smile.

After more than 30 years in dentistry, cases like this are still incredibly rewarding.
My patient came to me with extensive tooth loss, which was affecting both the way she could use her teeth and how she felt about her smile.
I carried out a full-mouth rehabilitation using multiple dental implants and full-arch implant-supported bridges, rebuilding her teeth, bite and smile together.
With a case of this complexity, the planning is just as important as the treatment itself. You have to consider how everything works together, from function and stability to the final appearance.
Seeing her able to smile confidently again is ultimately what it’s all about.
If you’ve experienced significant tooth loss, or you’ve been told your dental needs are complex, I’d be happy to explore what options may be available to you.

A smile doesn’t need to be dramatically different to make a dramatic difference.
For this patient, Invisalign, teeth whitening and carefully placed composite bonding helped create a more balanced, confident smile while keeping everything looking natural and in harmony with their features.
The result is brighter, straighter and more refined, but still unmistakably them.
It’s often the subtle changes that have the greatest impact.

As a parent, it’s natural to want the very best for your child’s health and development, including their smile.
Many orthodontic concerns are far easier to correct when identified early. Crowding, bite problems and jaw development issues can often be addressed more effectively while a child is still growing.
With over 30 years of clinical experience and a special interest in early orthodontic intervention, Dr Mark Hughes helps parents understand whether treatment is needed now, later, or simply monitoring as their child develops.
Early assessment doesn’t always mean early treatment but it can make a significant difference to long-term outcomes.
Because a confident smile starts with the right foundations.
