Hori’s nevusis a common, harmless skin condition that causes greyish-blue or brown patches to form on both sides of the face. It is a type of dermal melanocytosis, which means that pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) have mistakenly gathered deep down in the dermis (the lower layer of skin) instead of staying on the surface where they normally belong.

Love teaching you about your own skin during consultation

Why patient education is important?

Patient education is a vital part of a skin consultation because it transforms a simple procedure or product recommendation into an informed, collaborative plan for long-term skin health

Aligns goals: Clear explanations help bridge the gap between a patient’s desired look and realistic medical or aesthetic outcomes.

Defines timelines: Patients learn how many sessions or how much time is truly required to see genuine changes, reducing frustration.

Combats misinformation: Providers act as educators to correct false trends or unrealistic standards picked up on social media.

Explains skin biology: Patients learn about their unique skin type, barrier function, and microbiome so they understand why certain active ingredients are chosen.

Why can’t we just treat dark patch as melasma treatment?

Melasma is driven by hormones, heat, and visible light as well as UV rays, meaning standard sunscreens or basic spot lighteners often fail to stop the underlying melanocyte (pigment cell) over activation.

Melasma pigment often sits deep within the skin layers, requiring specialized combination therapies.

We take so much time during your consultation to find out about your trigger factors that’s because avoiding triggers is vital for melasma because the condition involves hyper-reactive pigment cells (melanocytes) that quickly switch back on to overproduce melanin. Because melasma is chronic and easily reactivated by UV rays, heat, inflammation, or hormones, avoiding triggers stops existing dark patches from worsening and prevents treated skin from relapsing
