I am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Advanced Rapid Transformational Therapist specialising Desperate to help your child but don’t know how?

Helping stressed parents survive teens by understanding how the teenage brain works to support their mental health, and yours! | £447 | £1300

Parenting a teenager or young adult suffering with anxiety or low self-esteem? Trying to manage the stress of work and homelife? School on your case but not providing the support you need? No-one understands what it’s like and you don’t know where to turn? Would you like to relate to your teen better and improve your relationship so that you can support them and avoid more stress and tension? If so I can help. This was the breakthrough in my relationship with my daughter who was diagnosed with anxiety and depression aged only 12. We had years of struggle, stress and downright fear of what she would do next. I spent my life feeling like I was treading on eggshells and never knew I’d said, or done, the wrong thing until it was too late. I was desperate to get her the help she needed but even when we eventually got seen at CAMHS they provided her with coping strategies, but not me. She would disappear into the consultation room and then return, refusing to speak to me, and I was left wondering how I was supposed to get through the next 7 days. This was a pattern to be repeated for many years until I learned more about what she was experiencing and could attempt to see the world through her eyes. I also discovered ways of reducing my own stress which helped the whole family deal with an incredibly difficult situation. Becoming a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Advanced Rapid Transformational Therapist enables me to help teenagers and young adults to discover the root cause of their anxiety and to change their negative beliefs and thought patterns. To find out more about how I can help, just send me a DM.

Life is always throwing us curveballs and I know you've faced your share of tough times. But here's the thing - you're still standing, and not just standing, but growing stronger with each hurdle you've overcome.

This affirmation encourages you to reflect on your journey. Those moments when you felt overwhelmed by work pressures, family responsibilities, or even the small daily struggles - they've all contributed to your strength. Like a sturdy oak tree that's weathered many storms, your roots have grown deeper, your branches more resilient.

Remember, it's not about glorifying hardship, but recognising the inner strength you've developed. Whether it was adapting to new technologies at work, managing through economic uncertainties, or simply keeping going during trying times, you've proven your mettle.

You're not just surviving; you're thriving. Each challenge you've faced has added another layer to your armour, making you better equipped for whatever comes next.

So, the next time you're queuing in the rain or tackling a difficult task, remind yourself: you've got this. After all, every tough time has indeed made you stronger than you were before.

Let’s be honest, our teenagers can be really difficult to love sometimes!

My Mum used to tell a brilliant story of how one day she told her mother, “I hate you”. She was really shocked when her mother replied, “I don’t like you much either sometimes.”

That sums it up for me. Teenagers can say the most awful and hurtful things to parents but that’s because they know they can.

As difficult as it can be to see the positive in this situation, it means that they feel safe enough to direct all this angst at you because they know you love them and will still be there for them.

Take a breath.

Remind yourself that this is just a reflection of their own inner turmoil. Happy people do not scream, shout or say hurtful things.

I always advise letting the dust settle before reconfirming boundaries. Try this helpful phrase: “I can see that you’re really angry but it’s not OK for you to talk to me like that.”

Then you can try to find out what’s really going on and how you can best support them.

If you think anxiety might be at the heart of this behaviour, taking the Teenage Anxiety Checker will help identify what’s going on for both of you. Just click on the link in my bio ‘how to help your anxious teen’ 👆

People often think that hypnotherapy is the medical world’s best kept secret.

We can spend a lot of time debating why that is (big pharma can’t make money out of it for a start) 🤔 but I’d rather focus on what it HAS been recognised for.

I recently attended a conference at the Royal Society of Medicine with the title ‘Clinical Hypnosis: Past, Present and Future - an Adjuvant Tool That Medicine Almost Forgot’. Not the snappiest of titles, but you get the picture.

The focus was on hypnosis being an adjuvant (ie aiding or assisting) because they were discussing the benefits of using hypnosis for cancer patients, pain management, IBS, health and procedure anxiety. It can also be used as an effective standalone therapy.

Some people will argue that hypnosis and hypnotherapy hasn’t been tested in clinical trials. Sadly this circles back to my point about big pharma, because clinical trials require a lot of funding. But, as Dr Sarah Partridge pointed out on the day, we now have sufficient evidence to show the incredible benefits hypnosis can achieve.

If you want to find out more about how hypnotherapy could help you overcome an unwanted belief or behaviour, just send me a message.

What comes to mind when you think about what most teens are lacking?

🤪 Common sense
🤪 Planning skills
🤪 Any concept of consequences
🤪 Desire to leave their bedroom
🤪 Basic hygiene…

Of course, all of the above might be true! But the one thing most teens are really lacking is perspective.

You see the world as someone who has long left school, expanded your horizons, had multiple experiences and learnt a lot of life lessons.

A teenager can only see the world through what they have experienced, only having been on the planet for a few years and having spent most of them in education.

So something that you can really help your teen with is providing perspective. Let them know that school isn’t forever, they'll have a lot more choices when they are older, and that acne usually disappears!

Don’t assume they know what you know.

Taking time to see the world through your child’s eyes will help your connection.

Do you struggle to find a positive word to put on the end of ‘I am…’?

If you do, it’s likely to be an indication of low self-esteem.

Try this daily practice to create positive feelings about yourself:

Look at yourself in the mirror and say the words ‘I am’ followed by 7 different positive endings.

Here’s a few to try:

🧡 I am lovable
🧡 I am kind
🧡 I am learning to love myself
🧡 I am a great friend
🧡 I am amazing
🧡 I am powerful
🧡 I am brave

If you do this every day, even if you don’t believe the words to start with, your mind will start to accept them and your self-esteem will grow.

Give it a try and let me know how it feels 💕

That feeling when you’ve got to get across a busy road? Or when a deadline is looming? We all need a degree of stress in our lives. It’s what keeps us out of danger and actually makes us get stuff done!

But when there’s too much stress, or it goes on for too long, it can lead to anxiety.

Suffering from anxiety is when stress and anxious feelings have a significant impact on day to day activities, and don’t disappear when the cause of stress is removed.

With exams, friendships, social media… teenagers naturally face a lot of stress. But how do you know when the stress has tipped over into anxiety for your child, and it’s time to take action?

If you want to find out if your teen is stressed, or actually struggling with anxiety, just answer a few questions in the Teenage Anxiety Checker. You will get useful tips and advice on how to support them.

After years of working with clients of all ages, I have come to realise that good self-esteem is essential for a fulfilled life.

It really is the foundation of the beliefs we hold about ourselves which, in turn, determines our thoughts and behaviour.

If you want to build a house, you have to make sure the foundations are solid first - otherwise cracks will appear in the walls.

It’s the same with self-esteem. If you don’t get that right first, often trying to fix other things won’t be successful.

That’s why I always start with self-esteem when working with my 1:1 Transformation Clients.

And the ripple effects of solving self-esteem issues are incredible.

I’ve even had clients completely change their relationship with food by realising that they are worth looking after.

If you want to make changes in your life, a good place to start is by assessing your self-esteem.

Taking an average of the last seven days, how you really feel about yourself out of 10 (where 1 is rubbish and 10 is amazing).

If you’re not getting beyond 6 very often, there’s room for improvement. And any dip in a child’s self-esteem is worth investigating.

Remember that I’m here if you need me.

When our son had a stroke as a baby, one of the nurses told my husband that we needed to go through a grieving process.

I couldn’t understand that at first, probably because we were in the first euphoric stage of his life being saved.

But it’s possible to experience grief for a life that’s very different to the one you imagined. Like most fathers with their sons, my husband had pictured all the physical activities they would enjoy together. All of that had potentially been taken away from us.

Of course, it’s a quick adjustment because you love your children unconditionally. We have been blessed with a boy - now a young man - who has exceeded all our expectations and who pushes any physical limitations to the background.

Many parents I’ve spoken to about their child’s poor mental health, express a similar sense of grief. This is not what they imagined and they are constantly having to adjust.

It doesn’t mean you love your child any less. It’s just a process of readjustment.

Any emotion you feel is valid.

No one wants to see their child suffer and I know the agony of going to bed every night praying for my daughter to recover from her crippling anxiety and depression.

Fortunately for us, the recovery did come for our daughter too, and she is now enjoying life to the full.

Navigating the unexpected is hard for us all, so be kind to yourself along the way. Give yourself permission to grieve if you need to, but hold on to hope. Change is always possible.

Once Anxiety takes hold, it has a tendency to grow.

What starts as Anxiety about one particular thing, like exams, can develop into generalised Anxiety. This can have a significant negative impact on daily life.

This lovely teenager was finding almost everything difficult, including going to Sixth Form and being able to face her part-time job.

As when dealing with any issue a client has, the key was to go back and find out where the Anxiety came from. In this case, it had started with bullying at a much younger age and her self-esteem had gradually been eroded ever since.

The trigger was an incident at work where a customer had been rude and this already fragile teenager began to believe that she couldn’t cope with anything.

Once we’d figured out the root cause of the Anxiety, through hypnotherapy we were able to change the way she thought about past experiences and to change the belief that was created as a result.

After that, I recorded a bespoke audio for her to listen to every day for at least 21 days. Along with some other techniques I shared with her, this wired in a new, positive way of thinking.

Now, we have a resilient young lady who knows her worth and is confident that she can face life’s challenges.

Messages like this never fail to make me feel grateful that I can help people in this way. It was definitely another happy dance moment. 💃

Self-belief is everything and it makes me so happy to reinstate it, especially in teenagers.

Teenage years are often ones of compare and despair.

Negative self-talk and doubt sets in all too easily and can be difficult for them to shift for themselves.

So to be able to do that and give them back hope for their future is beautiful.

Who or what brings you hope?
