Motherhood can be beautiful, but it can also be tiring, busy and overwhelming.
Between pregnancy, recovery, feeding, childcare, work, housework, appointments and the mental load, movement can often feel like one more thing on the list.
But movement does not have to look like the gym, a full workout or doing things perfectly.
A walk with your baby counts.
Stretching at home counts.
Dancing in the living room counts.
Playing with your children counts.
Stepping outside for 10 minutes counts.
You may already be moving more than you realise. And when you can, adding just 10 minutes of intentional movement that raises your heart rate can help boost energy, improve sleep, lift your mood and build confidence.
The Motherhood Group is proud to collaborate with This Girl Can to remind mothers that movement can be small, flexible, realistic and part of everyday life.
Start with what you can.
Build on what you already do.
Find the movement that works for you.

For the seventh year, we’ve brought Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK to life - this year celebrating Joy, demanding Justice and honouring every mother’s Journey.
From our campaign launch and DHSC conversations to Parliament, The Big Conversation on Mumbrite, Walk & Talk and our conference watch party, thank you for showing up, listening and sharing.
To our mothers, Mums Advisory Board members, speakers, partners, volunteers and everyone who supported the week: thank you.
We saw your posts, initiatives, reports and webinars. We saw the conversations you started in your communities and workplaces. Thank you for joining our events and creating spaces of your own.
Take some time to rest this weekend and reflect on the week we’ve shared. There is so much to appreciate, learn from and carry forward.
Let this be a stepping stone into a bigger conversation - and lasting action for Black maternal mental health.
Until next Black Maternal Mental Health Week. Our work, support and community continue!đź’—

Sometimes shame sounds like “I should be coping better.” 🤍
It can show up in the help we don’t ask for, the feelings we hide and the pressure to hold everything together.
This Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK, The Motherhood Group is making space for honest conversations about motherhood.
Our Black Maternal Mental Health Report explores how shame, stigma and expectations of strength can make it harder for some Black mothers to speak openly about their mental health.
You can love your children deeply and still need rest, care and support. You don’t have to reach breaking point to deserve it.
Save this as a reminder, share it with a mum who needs it, and find connection and support at mumbrite.com đź’—
Who do you think answered best? 🎤👀
What does the public actually know about Black maternal health and mental health?
For Black Maternal Mental Health Week, we took the conversation to the streets ✨🩷

The journey you don’t see. 💗
Feeling unheard. Being judged. Putting on a brave face when you’re struggling inside. These are experiences Black mothers have shared through The Motherhood Group’s work.
Every mother deserves to feel safe, be taken seriously and find a place where she can bring her full self.
This Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK, led nationally by The Motherhood Group, we’re honouring the journeys behind the words.
Joy • Justice • Journey.
Black maternal mental health matters. This week and every week.
Share this. Help us make more mothers feel heard and less alone.

Justice means accountability. Promises backed by funding. Clear responsibility. Progress we can measure. Action when care falls short.
It means removing barriers to mental health support, tackling racism and discrimination, and protecting the funding needed to improve care.
It means learning from reviews and acting on their findings. Asking how the announced Maternity and Neonatal Commissioner will hold the system to account. Making sure mothers know their right to complain and have their concerns properly investigated.
Above all, justice means mothers being heard, receiving timely, equitable healthcare and helping shape the decisions that affect their lives.
That includes Black mothers. Our voices, our mental health and our experiences must be part of every commitment to improve care.
Today is Day 2 of Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK, led nationally by The Motherhood Group. Our theme is Joy • Justice • Journey, and today we’re focusing on Justice as we take this conversation to Parliament.

It’s Black Maternal Mental Health Week (BMMHW). 💗
Behind every statistic is a mother who deserves to be heard, believed and supported. Being called “strong” should never mean being left to cope alone.

Black maternal mental health matters. This week and every week.
Share this. Help us keep the conversation going.
It’s officially Black Maternal Mental Health Week UK! 🖤✨
launches the seventh annual awareness week, running from 21–27 September 2026.
This year’s theme: JOY • JUSTICE • JOURNEY.
To launch the week, we took to the streets outside Parliament, sharing our experiences and asking the public what they know about Black maternal mental health.
Black mothers deserve to be heard, believed and supported. We deserve care that understands our experiences, takes our concerns seriously and supports our mental wellbeing throughout motherhood.
A special thank you to some of our Mums Advisory Board members who shared their stories and took part in the march and campaign
🎥 Watch our launch film, share it and help us take this conversation further. Follow to get involved throughout the week.
