Burning Man Ultra: the race that was more than just the miles. It was the journey.

I am so grateful I got to experience this.

A year ago, I never regularly ran more than 8-10km. That’s a bit of a difference to 50km in the desert.

Well, here’s the why.
And what it was like.
And a collection of my thoughts about it.

❤️

Last year at Burning Man I just happened to find out about this race.

And that only around 200 people do it.
Even less complete it.

It’s dusty.
It’s crazy.
And it’s at 5am on the third day.

It was clear: this was the only medal I wanted.
It had to be done.
What could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, so… about that…

Every run, and every race this year, led up to this.

The journey: a little time, a lot of miles. A lot of thoughts.

There’s not a lot you can do when you’re running but think.
I had to seriously train to run 50km in the desert. It was a lot of work. A lot of time.
And surprisingly, running quieted my mind. It allowed me to breathe more easily. Process days.
It didn’t just become something I had to do to train, but something that helped my mind.

And I found myself getting stronger and better.

Work can consume us. Especially running a business. We’re busy people.

This was my time I was reclaiming. And it felt so good.

Unfortunately being healthy AND being ladylike weren’t available for order as a combined package this year. Try again next year.

Sometimes I seriously questioned my life choices. Like, who tf voluntarily trots out a 40km training run of a Sunday when you could just as easily stay in bed?!

I imagined what it would feel like to run this. I manifested crossing that finish line.

In reality, it was dusty af and if you’ve ever run on the beach you’ll know my bu******ks were on fire after the first 500m let alone whatever point this was. I had dust in between my toes and it was gusting 30 knots.
Ngl, not exactly what I had manifested.

Running whilst others were raving was really cool tho.

It was tough though. Mentally tough.

The first training run feels so long ago. And the task felt insurmountable. Now I look back and realise I’ve run over 3000km in the last year. How did that happen? One foot in fr

Love this. Love teaching. Being able to positively influence practitioners to do better is a huge privilege 🫶. And getting messages like this after a day of teaching what I love most - is so rewarding 😊

Recently I was invited by Aesthetics by Galderma UK to speak to a group of British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses (BAMAN) about being prepared for complications.

Every injector will, at some point, face a complication - or a few. It’s part of routine practice.

A few years ago, complications were a taboo. Nobody was owning up to having them, and nobody knew what to do with them.

Times have changed. The sheer volume of patients getting injectable treatments mean that complications are on the rise. Responsible practitioners educate themselves to recognise and manage these problems, so that their patients can have better outcomes.

Are you still fighting your complications fear or are you facing it head on and learning? 💡

Sometimes the answer to a softening jawline is not more filler.

If the concern is laxity or fullness beneath the chin, adding volume may simply add more weight to an area you already want to look lighter.

For this patient, FaceTite was chosen to improve definition through the lower face and create a cleaner transition between the jawline and neck.

FaceTite is a minimally invasive procedure that delivers controlled radiofrequency energy beneath the skin. Depending on the patient and treatment plan, it can address tissue laxity and unwanted areas of fat while supporting a firmer, more defined contour.

And this is the important bit: it is not a lunchtime facial.

It involves a procedure, recovery and a proper assessment of your anatomy, skin quality and expectations. It also isn’t a replacement for surgery when surgery is genuinely what would create the right result.

But for the correctly selected patient sitting somewhere between “filler won’t fix this” and “I’m not ready for a surgical lift”, it can be a very useful option.

The slender jawline of her dreams—without trying to build one by endlessly adding volume.

Results and recovery vary. Consultation is required to determine suitability.

I don’t believe in burnout.

Well… not every version of what we call burnout.

I absolutely believe in exhaustion. I believe your body can wave a white flag and demand sleep, boundaries, recovery—and sometimes proper medical support. That is real, and slowing down matters.

But I also think there is another kind.

The kind where life quietly becomes work… home… sleep… repeat.

You keep promising yourself you’ll see your friends next month. Start that hobby after the busy period. Book the trip when things calm down.

Except the busy period never ends.

Sometimes you don’t need to make your life smaller. Sometimes you need to put something back into it that makes you feel like yourself.

For me, that’s flying planes, running ridiculous distances, disappearing into the desert and doing things that make me feel properly alive.

Your version can be completely different. The point is to have one.

So no, this isn’t me saying genuine burnout isn’t real. It’s me asking whether you’re physically depleted—or whether your soul is bored senseless.

Take this as your sign to do something good for it.

Sculptra can treat far more than volume loss—but that doesn’t mean everyone should have it.

It is one of the most versatile treatments in my clinic because we aren’t simply filling one line or replacing volume in one isolated area.

Sculptra works by stimulating your own collagen production, so it can be particularly useful for patients experiencing:

• gradual loss of facial structure and support
• more generalised volume loss
• skin that feels thinner, looser or increasingly crepey
• changes affecting several areas rather than one isolated concern
• a desire for gradual, subtle improvement that develops over time

It can also suit patients who don’t want to look as though they have suddenly “had something done.” The results build slowly as the skin produces more collagen.

But it isn’t the right choice for everybody.

It may not suit someone seeking an immediate result, a very precise correction or a transformation before an event next weekend. Certain health conditions, active skin problems, pregnancy, breastfeeding or a tendency towards problematic scarring may also affect suitability.

This is why Sculptra should never be approached as a standard number of vials for a standard face.

The question isn’t simply, “Can I have Sculptra?”

It’s whether Sculptra is the right treatment for your anatomy, concerns, medical history, expectations and timeline.

If you would like to find out, book a consultation and let’s have a proper chat about it.

She thought she needed a nose job.

Instead, we used filler to carefully balance both her nose and chin.

Adding volume to a nose can sound counterintuitive when the patient’s concern is that it already feels prominent. But strategically placed filler can help smooth irregularities and create the appearance of a straighter profile.

At the same time, improving chin projection brought the lower face into better balance—changing how the nose, lips and chin relate to one another from the side.

Her reaction?

“Now I don’t need a nose job!”

This wasn’t about treating one feature in isolation. It was about understanding why that feature felt dominant and considering the proportions of the profile as a whole.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty cannot make a nose physically smaller or reproduce everything surgery can achieve. It also isn’t suitable for every patient. But in carefully selected cases, treating the nose and chin together can create a beautifully balanced result.

Results are individual. Treatment followed a full clinical assessment and shared decision-making with the patient.
