A facial doesn’t really begin when you walk through the door.

There’s the preparation beforehand.
The little details that make the space feel comfortable.
The time spent getting everything ready before you even lie down.

Because for me, the treatment isn’t just about what happens during those 60, 75 or 90 minutes.

It’s about creating an experience that feels considered from beginning to end. 🤍

Why do Corneotherapists Avoid Certain Treatments?

Not all professional treatments are corneotheraputic.

One of the biggest changes in my approach to skin has been questioning the need to constantly exfoliate, remove or stimulate.

The skin already has its own incredible processes for maintaining and renewing itself.

So rather than asking:
“What can I remove from this skin?”

I’m learning to ask:
“What does this skin need to function well?”

For me, that means moving away from treatments that deliberately disrupt the skin’s protective structure, and towards supporting the processes the skin is already designed to carry out.

I didn’t choose to train in Corneotherapy because I wanted to do more to the skin.

If anything, it was the opposite.

The more I’ve learned about skin, the more I’ve questioned the idea that we always need to push it harder to see results.

My own experience with reactive skin has also made me much more interested in understanding why skin behaves the way it does, rather than constantly trying to correct what I can see on the surface.

That’s what drew me towards Corneotherapy.

An approach that puts skin health, barrier function and understanding the individual condition of the skin at the centre.

I’m still learning. I’m still building this into Fresh Faced.

But the more I learn, the more it feels aligned with the kind of skin therapist I want to be.

So, what actually is Corneotherapy?

You may have heard me mention this word a little more recently, and there’s a reason for that.

Corneotherapy is an approach to skin health that looks beyond simply treating what we can see on the surface.

It considers the skin as a living, responsive organ, and places a real emphasis on the Stratum Corneum, the skin barrier, and creating the right conditions for the skin to regulate, repair and function well.

And honestly, this way of thinking has really changed how I look at skin.

Rather than asking:
“What can I do to change this?”

I’m becoming much more interested in asking:
“What does this skin actually need?”

Sometimes that might mean treating.
Sometimes it might mean supporting.
Sometimes it might mean doing less for a while.

The important thing is understanding why.

I’m still learning and developing this approach behind the scenes at Fresh Faced, but I’m really excited to start bringing you along as I explore it more. 🤎

If you’ve never heard of Corneotherapy before, save this post.

We’ve been taught to look for signs that a treatment is “working”.

The tingling.
The peeling.
The redness.
The tightness.
The feeling that we’ve really done something to our skin.

But skin health isn’t a competition to see how much we can make the skin tolerate.

Sometimes the most effective thing we can do is support the skin rather than constantly challenge it.

Because healthy skin comes first.

And when the skin is healthy, supported and functioning as it should, then we can think about rejuvenation.

Your skin isn’t a treatment category.

And I think we’ve made skincare far more complicated than it needs to be.

Your skin can be dehydrated, congested, sensitive and inflamed all at the same time. It can change with your hormones, stress, environment, lifestyle and even the products you’ve been using.

So why should your treatment always be exactly the same?

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot, looking at what your skin is actually doing today, rather than simply choosing a facial from a menu based on a skin “type”.

Because your skin doesn’t read a treatment menu.

It tells us what it needs. 🤍

Do you feel like your skin needs something different from one facial to the next? I’d love to know 👇

What if you didn’t have to know what your skin needs before you walk through the door? 🌿

Your skin changes. Your needs change. So perhaps your treatment should too.

Skincare can feel so complicated.

There are endless products, ingredients, routines and opinions telling us what we should be doing for our skin.

But your skin is individual and what works for someone else might not be what your skin needs right now.

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, and it’s a big part of the direction I’m taking Fresh Faced in. 🤍

More on that soon… 🌿

When people hear “high frequency” they often think it’s only for acne-prone skin.

While it’s fantastic for helping to manage breakouts, the benefits go much further than that.

This versatile treatment can help:

✨ Calm inflammation
✨ Improve circulation
✨ Support skin rejuvenation
✨ Brighten dull skin
✨ Promote a healthier complexion overall

It’s one of my favourite treatments because it’s effective, non-invasive and suitable for most skin types.

Swipe through to discover why high frequency is a treatment I regularly incorporate into facial treatments.

DM the word ‘Frequency’ for more advice on whether it’s a suitable fit for your skin concerns 🤍

If you’ve ever had a facial with me, you’ve probably heard me talk about high frequency.

It’s actually a well-established treatment that has been used in skincare for decades, valued for its ability to support a range of skin concerns in a gentle, non-invasive way.

Some of the benefits include:

✔️ Helping to reduce spot-causing bacteria
✔️ Calming inflammation
✔️ Supporting circulation
✔️ Encouraging a brighter complexion
✔️ Promoting overall skin rejuvenation

One of the reasons I recommend it so often is because it’s gentle, non-invasive, and suitable for most skin types.

Healthy skin isn’t always about aggressive treatments. Sometimes it’s about consistently supporting the skin so it can function at its best.
