Real life isn’t a make-over tv show. You can’t get your garden/house ‘done’ in a week!

It’s taken us 20 years to get our garden to how it is now and it’s still a work in progress.

This week I finally finished my shady spot at the bottom of the garden.

It will have ferns and grasses, purple foxgloves, cow parsley and blackberries. It’s my homage to ‘the woods’ that I walked in at my Great-Uncle’s and at my Gran and Grandad’s when I was little (ignore the hostas!).

The hammock was given to me by my amazing sister who bought it on her travels in South America and somehow squeezed it into her backpack and lugged it around for 3 weeks before she came home! I bought a hammock stand for it and a few decades later I have created a perfect spot for it 🤩

Anyone got any gardening projects they’re working on this summer? I think it’s a pond next for us!

Why should you pay a professional decorator when you can do it yourself?

I get a lot of people looking faintly embarrassed when I arrive saying ‘I used to do all my own decorating but I just can’t quite ….’

Of course you can’t - it’s time consuming, messy and many people find it plain boring!

As you can see in this reel - apart from time, there are many reasons why hiring a pro is better than DIY!

Do you remember this table? I sanded it back a few months ago and now I’m back to paint the attic bedroom.

I love this colour!

There were cracks and water stains on the ceiling after a leak and cracks in the wall and the caulk was old and cracked so needed replacing. As it was an attic room, it was tricky to take the furniture out so it was a squeeze!

But… this colour was a dream to paint and I was treated to home made scones, lunch, strawberries and have been very well looked after.

It’s been lovely 🥰

This beautiful mid-century Nathan table had seen better days and was in need of some tlc.

A customer got in touch and asked if I could help.

After some gentle machine sanding and hand sanding I removed the old finish.

There are usually some issues with these tables. The veneer is usually super-thin which means you can get down to the chipboard very easily.

The central leaves are rarely used so are always a completely different colour to the rest of the table.

After several rounds of gentle sanding each one followed by cleaning off the dust with white spirit I was ready to apply the Polyx Oil.

I applied a thin coat of an amber tint to try to even out the difference in colour followed by a second coat of clear satin.

It looks a million times better than when I started!

Very satisfying 🤩

This is the fourth of seven rooms that I’m transforming in this house 🏠

All the usual prep followed by a coat of the wrong colour and then coats of the right colour!

Looking fresh and bright.

Now booking for November so get in touch if you’d like a quote.

This wallpaper ♥️

This job was a joy - the company, the chat and the pastries.

But working with this wallpaper was such a pleasure.

It’s beautiful 🤩

Happy Friday folks!

Here’s the thing.

It’s ok to need help getting your home to where you need it to be so you can enjoy it.

This is coming up time and time again. You know how to do it you just can’t start.

Life is busy, you’ve been ill, you’ve have family troubles, work issues, you’re frozen with indecision, overwhelm and exhaustion.

If only you could sort out the spare room you would have somewhere to escape to - to read, to craft, to meditate, to exercise.

If only you could find a way to store stuff you could invite people round and they’d have somewhere to sit and eat and relax.

It’s not just you - I see it time and time again.

Sometimes you just need someone to sot with you and help you - some dedicated time with someone who will gently support you and put systems in place so it’s easy to keep it that way.

This is what me and do and the results are immensely satisfying. Yes the space is much better to live in but the head space it creates is where you can really feel the difference.

If you’d like a free minute chat to see whether we can help drop me or Ruth a message.

I love my decorating weeks but every so often I have a week ‘at home’.

This usually involves some time working on commissions in the workshop, some gardening, and maybe a small decorating job.

Today I started at 7.30 and couldn’t stop. I was a whirlwind of productivity but was very aware that I wouldn’t be able to sustain this all week so allowed myself to lean into it for the day.

7.45 - shopping arrived
8.00 - in the garden moving soil
9.30 - at Acorns in Moseley delivering jumble (plenty more to take)
10.00 - collecting prescriptions
10.30 - home (after deciding against fitting in a quick trip to IKEA or maybe a swim!)
11.30 - sat in the garden with a cuppa and snack - short breaks essential
11.45 - sanded the paint off a table in the workshop
1.15 - ate lunch whilst watching a bit of tv
2.00 - went to spend time decluttering with a customer - loved it
5.00 - finished
5.30 went to see another customer about a decorating job
6.00 - dinner
6.30 - took child to class in Solihull and did some ‘car admin’.
8.15 - home - thought about finishing sanding my table. Some wise words entered my head ‘just because you can doesn’t mean you should’
8.30 - decided on a bath with the sun going down - a time to relax.

Stop - sleep - be less busy tomorrow 😉
