Polynucleotides are one of the treatments I'm asked about most, especially by women noticing their skin becoming thinner.

At Refine, I use Plinest. Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments that support the skin's own repair and regeneration processes. Rather than adding volume or changing your features, they work on skin quality over time.

They're often chosen for crepey skin under the eyes, on the neck and on the chest, which are areas that tend to show midlife changes first. A course of treatments is usually recommended, with improvements building gradually. Results vary from person to person.

I'm Matthew, an independent prescribing pharmacist (MPharm IP). Before opening Refine, I worked in hospital and community pharmacy, and that clinical background is at the heart of how I work.

It means a thorough look at your medical history and medicines before any treatment. It means face-to-face assessment before anything is prescribed. And it means honest advice, even when the right answer is to wait or to try something different.

At Refine, you'll see me at every appointment, from your first consultation through to aftercare, in Ligoniel or Waringstown.

This is SkinPen, the microneedling device I use at Refine Aesthetics.

SkinPen creates thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. These trigger your skin's natural healing response and encourage new collagen. It's used for skin texture, acne scarring, enlarged pores and fine lines.

Every treatment uses the SkinPen and SkinFuse treatment kit. That includes a hyaluronic gel that helps the pen glide smoothly over your skin, and a calming complex to soothe your skin afterwards. Each treatment also uses a new, sterile, single-use cartridge.

SkinPen was the first microneedling device to be cleared by the US FDA. A course of treatments is usually recommended, with improvements building over several weeks. Results vary from person to person.

Refine is coming to Waringstown!

From Friday 23 October, I'll be running clinics at Sorella in Waringstown as well as at LJ Studios in Ligoniel. If you're in Craigavon, Lurgan, Portadown, Banbridge or Dromore, that means medical aesthetics with a prescribing pharmacist, without the trip to Belfast.

Every appointment starts with a proper consultation with me. We'll talk through your goals, your medical history and what's realistic, with no pressure to book anything on the day.

October is Menopause Awareness Month, and it's one of the most important months of the year for the women I see in clinic.

Perimenopause and menopause bring changes that nobody really prepares you for, and skin is one of them. As oestrogen falls, collagen production drops too. Many women notice their skin feeling drier, thinner or less firm than it did a few years ago.
