Message from the Office of the Chief | September 27, 2026

Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc is aware that individuals associated with Second Sons Canada, a group linked to white supremacist and white nationalist ideology, have been seen in our community. Chief and Council are taking this seriously. We are monitoring the situation, assessing additional security measures and working with the RCMP.

Please do not approach or confront individuals associated with this group. Report suspicious or concerning activity to the RCMP and reference Police File 26-32569. Call 911 if there is an immediate threat or emergency. Please rely on official updates and check in with those who may be feeling concerned.

An important milestone for Bill C-10: the legislation has now passed the House of Commons and is heading to the Senate.

This legislation would establish a Commissioner for Modern Treaty Implementation, an initiative that is particularly significant for the Yukon. The proposed commissioner would help strengthen federal accountability in fulfilling modern treaty obligations.

I was honoured to speak to the bill in the House and to study it at the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Committee, where we also heard directly from Yukon First Nations leaders about their experiences with modern treaty implementation.

I'm pleased to see Bill C-10 advance to the next stage and will continue following its progress in the Senate.
