The World's Greatest Stretch: One Movement. Four Big Benefits.
If you spend your day sitting at a desk, struggle with tight hips, deal with recurring back pain, or want to move better in sport and exercise, the World's Greatest Stretch deserves a place in your routine.
This movement combines a lunge, hip opener, thoracic spine rotation, and hamstring stretch into one powerful sequence.
✅ For back pain: Improves mobility through the hips and thoracic spine, reducing the tendency for the low back to compensate.
✅ For tight hips: Targets hip flexors, glutes, adductors, and hamstrings—the muscles that often become restricted from prolonged sitting.
✅ For desk jockeys: Helps reverse the effects of hours spent seated by opening the front of the hips and encouraging better posture.
✅ For athletes: Enhances mobility, movement efficiency, and rotational control, helping your body generate and transfer force more effectively.
The goal isn't to stretch harder—it's to move better. When your hips and spine work together the way they're designed to, everyday activities and athletic performance become easier and more efficient.
Try 3–5 slow repetitions per side, focusing on controlled breathing and quality movement.
Need help figuring out which mobility exercises are right for your body? Our team can assess your movement patterns and create a plan tailored to your goals.

🌿 The Power of Nature & Breath
Sometimes, wellness doesn’t require an appointment, a workout, or another thing on your to-do list. Sometimes, you just need to step outside.
We are so fortunate to live in an area that has beauty in nature conveniently close. Trenton Park, the Samson walking trail and even Melmerby Beach (aka The Merb) are great ways to get
movement in while enjoying the breath of the trees and water. Leave your phone in your pocket, slow your pace, and take a few intentional, deeper breaths. Notice the trees,
the sounds around you, the ground beneath your feet, and the rhythm of your breathing.
🌱 Time in nature combined with mindful breathing can be a simple way to:
• Reduce stress and mental fatigue
• Encourage relaxation and nervous system regulation
• Support mindful awareness and presence
• Get your body moving
• Create space to reset and recharge
Try this today:
Head out to the park or trail for 10–20 minutes. Walk slowly, breathe deeply, and let yourself be present in your surroundings.
Your body needs movement.
Your mind needs moments of stillness.
And sometimes, nature provides both. 🤍
🌿 Get outside. Breathe. Move. Reset.

🌿 Take Care of the Body That Takes Care of You
Your body carries you through everything.
It gets you to work, helps you stay active, lets you play with your kids, explore new places, enjoy your favourite activities, and show up for the people you care about.
But how often do you stop and take care of the body that does all of that for you?
Self-care isn't always about slowing down. Sometimes, self-care looks like moving your body, building strength, getting enough rest, eating well, taking a break when
you need one, and giving your muscles and joints the care they deserve.
✨ Taking care of your body can help you:
• Maintain strength and mobility
• Support recovery and reduce muscle tension
• Keep doing the activities you enjoy
• Manage the physical effects of stress
• Stay active and resilient as life changes
You don't have to wait until something hurts to start paying attention.
Your body works hard for you every single day.
🌱 Take care of it. Move it. Nourish it. Rest it. Listen to it.
Take care of the body that takes care of you. 🤍

🧰 Labour Day is almost here… and then it’s back to reality.
After a long weekend of relaxing, travelling, tackling projects, and squeezing in those last summer adventures, the return to work can be a bit of a shock to the system.
Long hours at your desk, back-to-back appointments, lifting, driving, or simply getting back into your regular routine can quickly bring tension and stiffness back into the body.
That’s where massage therapy and chiropractic care can help.
✨ Whether you’re dealing with:
• Neck and shoulder tension
• Low back stiffness
• Headaches
• Muscle soreness
• Reduced mobility
• General aches from getting back into your routine
…a little proactive care can go a long way toward helping you move well and feel your best.
And for those of you who are already thinking, “I should really book an appointment…” — consider this your sign. 😉 Be sure to schedule your appointments in advance, as the fall season tends to be a busy one. We want to make sure you can stay consistent with your care without any interruptions!
Some of our therapists are seeing clients on Labour Day, so you may not even have to wait until Tuesday to get back on track.
📲 Our online booking calendar is always open, so you can check availability and book whenever it works for you—even after hours.
Enjoy the long weekend. Then take care of the body that gets you through everything that comes next. 🤍

Back to School, Back to You 🍎
As a new school year begins, we want to take a moment to recognize the teachers, educational assistants, support staff, and school administrators heading back into another busy year.
You spend so much of your time supporting, teaching, organizing, problem-solving, and caring for others. Your own wellbeing deserves a place on the schedule, too.
Before the school year gets fully underway, book some time for yourself. Whether you need to release built-up tension, address those nagging aches, improve mobility, or simply take an hour to slow down and reset, massage therapy can be an important part of maintaining your own physical wellbeing.
Because taking care of everyone else starts with taking care of you. 🤍
📚 Welcome back, educators. We’re cheering you on for another year!
Book your next appointment at Somata and make your wellbeing part of your back-to-school routine.

✨ Meet Brianne: The Heart Behind the Emails (and So Much More)
If you've received an email from Somata, had a question answered, or noticed things running smoothly behind the scenes, there's a good chance you've already been in touch with Brianne, our Operations and Billing Coordinator.
Brianne brings a rare combination of warmth and professionalism to everything she does. With an infectious positive energy, an intuitive attention to detail, and a genuinely compassionate ear, she has quickly become an integral part of the Somata team.
Originally following her heart to New Glasgow, Brianne has embraced life in Pictou County and welcomes every opportunity to immerse herself in the local culture, build meaningful connections, and explore her new community.
When she's not managing the administrative operations of the clinic, you'll likely find her surrounded by paint at her easel. An accomplished and passionate artist, creativity is woven into everything she does—including the care and thoughtfulness she brings to her work at Somata. She also shares her home with a few feline roommates who are never far away from the action and always appreciate a sweet hello.
While Brianne isn't a receptionist, you may occasionally spot her in the studio, working her magic behind the scenes or chatting with clients at the front desk. Most often, though, she's the friendly face behind our emails, communications, billing support, and administrative systems that help keep everything running seamlessly.
We're incredibly grateful to have her as part of the Somata family and excited for you to get to know her too. 🤍
Help us give Brianne a warm Somata welcome in the comments!
