IPL is commonly used for concerns such as pigmentation, sun damage, visible redness and uneven tone. A recent tan, active skin infection, certain medications or a higher risk of pigmentation can affect whether it is an appropriate option.

Preparation often includes avoiding tanning and significant sun exposure, sharing your medications and skincare routine, and arriving with clean skin. After treatment, mild redness, swelling or sensitivity may occur for a few hours, and pigmented spots may temporarily darken before flaking over the next several days.

Gentle skincare, daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and allowing darkened spots to flake naturally are important parts of aftercare.

These are general guidelines. Candidacy, preparation, downtime and aftercare depend on each person’s skin type, concerns, health history and treatment plan.
