the symm label
Bespoke aesthetic injectables clinic in Calgary. At the symm label, we specialize in full facial balancing with the use of cosmetic injectables.
We believe in not just treating one area as this can cause an imbalance. We assess your face as a whole unit to better understand how we can harmonize your facial features. We focus on redirecting good light where shadows exist. This is how we can restore and enhance your facial features, all while maintain the philosophy of “less is more”.
If the first thing you notice is the lips, we’ve probably missed the bigger picture.
Treating the lips in isolation, especially over time, can create more projection without considering how they relate to the chin, surrounding shadows, and the rest of the lower face. Instead of looking more balanced, the lips can start to become the feature your eye lands on first.
We’d rather your eye move across the face without stopping anywhere.
That’s why our Lower Trifecta combines subtle lip enhancement with chin support and treatment of the chin shadow. By addressing the relationships between these features, we can soften shadows, improve proportions, and create a lower face that feels cohesive from every angle.

Not sure if fat dissolving or jawline filler is for you? Here’s how we decide:
Fat dissolving treatments like Belkyra break down localized fat deposits using deoxycholic acid injections. If there’s fullness or heaviness in the lower face that’s affecting definition, fat dissolving can reduce that volume and create a cleaner line.
Jawline filler works differently. Dermal filler adds structure and definition along the jaw by mimicking the jawbone, which is especially helpful when the issue isn’t excess volume, but a loss of structural support.
The key question we ask is: is the jawline lacking definition because there’s too much fatty tissue there, or because the skin lacks structural support?
→ Too much volume or heaviness: fat dissolving often makes more sense
→ Loss of structure or definition: filler is usually the better option
→ Sometimes it’s both, and we use both!
This is why we never recommend one or the other without a thorough assessment first. The symptoms can look similar from the outside, but the underlying issues require two completely different treatments.
But as always, the beauty is in the combination of modalities. We love a combination approach of deoxycholic acid injections, filler, and neuromodulator for treating the jawline.

One of the biggest reasons lip filler can look obvious isn’t always the lips themselves, but what’s missing around them.
When we assess lips, we’re also looking at the chin, the chin shadow, and how everything relates from both the front and the profile.
Those surrounding structures influence how the lips are supported and how they fit within the face.
If only the lips are treated, they can start to look disconnected. That’s often where you see lips that project too far forward or feel like they don’t belong with the rest of the facial features.
Sometimes the best lip result comes from treating the lips.
Sometimes it comes from treating the areas around them.
And sometimes it’s deciding that today isn’t a lip appointment at all.
Facial balancing is about understanding how each feature works together, so every treatment looks like it belongs.

It’s our signature for a reason. The tsl Lower Trifecta is one of our most requested treatments, and for good reason.
The Lower Trifecta addresses three areas that work together to support the lower face:
→ Lips
→ Chin
→ Chin Shadow
Instead of treating each area separately, we look at how they influence one another.
When these areas are addressed together, the lower face tends to look more balanced and cohesive.
When these areas are treated together, the results are more balanced and naturally integrated into the face than when treating lips or chin on their own. The lips blend naturally into the face, so we can achieve the lusciousness you love without looking like a duck.
If you’ve been thinking about lips, chin, or lower face balancing, this is where we start.

No face is perfectly symmetrical. In fact, most people naturally have one side that is stronger, fuller, or more projected than the other. Over time, volume loss can make these differences even more noticeable.
The goal isn’t to create perfect symmetry, but instead reduce imbalances that draw the eye in, and create a face that feels more harmonious as a whole.
For this patient, treatment focused on globally restoring volume throughout the face, with particular attention paid to the left side where volume loss was more apparent.
The lips were approached differently. After dissolving select areas of previous filler, treatment focused on refining shape, improving balance, and creating greater symmetry rather than simply adding volume.
Additional projection through the chin and definition along the jawline helped strengthen the lower face and improve overall facial proportions.
This is one of the principles that guides facial balancing: every feature exists in relationship to the next.
When we improve balance between the left and right sides of the face, between the upper and lower face, and between projection and support, the result is often difficult to pinpoint.
The face simply appears more harmonious, more rested, and more like itself.

Sometimes the most impactful change in facial balancing comes from relaxing the right muscle.
It’s completely normal for the two sides of your face to function differently.
One brow may naturally sit higher. One masseter may be stronger from years of chewing on one side. One side of your smile may pull more than the other. These small asymmetries are part of normal facial anatomy, but they can become more noticeable over time.
Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport allow us to work with those differences.
By strategically softening specific muscles, we can help improve balance between the two sides of the face. That might mean reducing the appearance of a stronger jawline on one side, creating more even brow position, softening an uneven smile, or improving harmony throughout the face without adding volume where it isn’t needed.
This is why facial balancing is never just about filler.
Every face is different. Every muscle is different. The treatment plan should reflect that.

One of the most common misconceptions about filler is that every concern needs to be treated directly.
In reality, some of the most natural results come from understanding what is happening around the area that concerns you.
In this case, treatment focused on the mid-cheeks and nasolabial folds.
By restoring support through the mid-face, we can often improve the appearance of the under eyes while also reducing the heaviness and folding that develops lower in the face. As support is lost through the cheeks, the tissues below have less structure holding them in place, often making the nasolabial folds appear deeper over time.
We also treated the deepest point of the fold itself to soften the shadow and transition where volume loss tends to be most noticeable.
We’re not trying to erase every line or create volume for the sake of volume, but instead restoring support where it has been lost, improving facial harmony, and creating a refreshed appearance where you can’t pinpoint exactly what changed.
The best facial balancing often leaves people wondering why you look so refreshed, not asking what you had done.

The chin shadow is the small indentation just next to the chin.
Some people have this naturally. For others, it becomes more noticeable over time.
What happens is that as we age, the bone that structurally supports this area gradually becomes smaller and thinner. This process is called bone resorption.
When the chin loses some of its underlying structural support, the soft tissue above it no longer has a firm surface to rest on. Instead of a smooth slope from the lips to the chin and jaw, a dip forms.
That dip casts a shadow, creating a visible break in the lower face.
This break can make the chin look shorter, disrupt the line of the jaw, and make the lower face appear less cohesive, even if the face is otherwise well-supported.
With very conservative filler placement, we can erase this shadow by gently replacing that lost structure.
The chin shadow is one of those adjustments most people don’t know to ask for (or that it even exists).
But with this small and specific change, we can help the lips, chin, and jawline flow together in a way that feels seamless and natural.

One of the most common concerns we hear about lower face filler is, “but won’t it make my face look wider?”
In reality, it’s usually the opposite.
When the chin lacks projection or support, the lower face can appear heavier, shorter, or less defined overall. And when shadowing develops through areas like the pre-jowl or chin shadow, it can create the illusion of extra weight or fullness that isn’t actually there.
By subtly narrowing and supporting the chin, softening shadowy areas, and improving the transition along the jawline, the face often appears slimmer, softer, and more feminine overall.
It’s one of those treatments patients are almost always surprised by because the result doesn’t look “done.”
It just looks lighter, more balanced, and more harmonious from every angle.
