𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗛𝗢𝗣𝗘: 𝗚𝗕𝗩 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗡.

Despite ongoing awareness campaigns, school engagements and community initiatives, Goodhope District continues to record cases of r**e and defilement.

The Goodhope District Development Committee report, as reported by Mmegi on 4 September 2026, highlights the continued concern and the district’s efforts to strengthen awareness among learners, parents, teachers and communities.

We also look at a 2025 case involving the alleged r**e of a 13-year-old girl in Kgoro, Goodhope District. Three people were accused in connection with the case and were further remanded in custody in February 2026 while the State continued gathering evidence.

For Her Armour, reporting a case is only the beginning.

We believe cases must be followed through the justice system. From incident to verdict, while keeping survivor safety and dignity at the centre.

The bigger question remains:

Are awareness campaigns enough, or do we need stronger prevention, protection, reporting and accountability mechanisms?

A 54-year-old woman died in Sefophe following an alleged r**e and assault on 2 August 2026.

According to police reports cited by Mmegi, three men aged between 27 and 33 were arrested and charged with r**e and murder in connection with the case. The investigation was ongoing at the time of reporting, and the accused were expected to appear before the Selebi-Phikwe Magistrate’s Court.

A woman died in an alleged intimate-partner killing in June. This week, the accused appeared before the 𝗟𝗼𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁 and was granted bail.

We often normalise behaviours in relationships because they don’t look like the abuse we have been taught to recognise. But abuse is not always physical.

Making your partner feel guilty for saying no to s*x is abuse.

If someone becomes angry, cold, distant, gives you the silent treatment, pressures you, or makes you feel responsible for their emotions because you said no, that is not simply “wanting s*x.” It can be manipulation and s*xual coercion.

You should never feel like you have to say yes just to keep your partner happy, avoid an argument, or prevent them from becoming upset.

You can have boundaries.
And being in a relationship does not mean you owe anyone s*x.

And we want to challenge ourselves too: How do we respond when our partner says no? Do we respect their boundary, or do we knowingly or unknowingly use guilt, anger or silence to get our way?
