If you’ve ever cancelled plans because of a breakout, or stood too close to the bathroom mirror at midnight, I know that feeling well. It’s lonely, and it chips away at you.
The research on zinc and acne is surprisingly clear. A 2020 review of 25 studies found people with acne tend to run low on zinc, and taking it helped settle those red, angry spots. Zinc is what your skin uses to heal and calm itself, and your body can’t stockpile it, so you need some every day.
When someone comes to me with skin issues, one of the first things I suggest is oysters, fresh or as oyster tablets. They’re the richest food source of zinc there is.
At home I take a zinc tablet daily, eat more sardines than any sensible person should, and keep a jar of my orange-zested chicken liver pâté in the fridge. My DAEAR skincare looks after the outside while all that good food does its job underneath.

You have probably been told that a moisturiser with water in it is cheap, that the water evaporates, and that you are paying for nothing. It sounds sensible. It is also not how skin works.
Your skin needs water to do its own repair work. The processes that shed dead cells and make your skin’s own natural moisturiser only run properly when there is enough water in the top layer. When skin dries out, those processes slow down and the skin makes less of its own moisturiser, which dries it out further. That is why dry skin tends to stay dry. It has stopped being able to fix itself.
Water is also what makes skin soft and flexible in the first place. Oil sits on top and smooths the surface. Water is what makes the layer underneath pliable rather than tight and flaky.
And water is the only thing that can carry the water soluble parts of a plant into your skin. Kakadu plum and quandong hold compounds that dissolve in water and compounds that dissolve in oil. Take the water phase out and you only get half of what the plant has.
That is why the Australian Botanical Cream is made as an oil in water cream. Glycerin and rosewater go in first, then the oils hold everything in place.
The water is not filler. It is the part doing the delivering.
That also being said it is super important to have enough electrolytes in your diet to be able to hold water from an internal standpoint as well.
