Most people can tell when their skin is reacting to a stressful stretch. It just rarely announces itself as stress.

It turns up as a flare that will not settle, or healing that is taking noticeably longer than it used to. Sometimes it is only that a product you have used for a year has started to sting.

The barrier is usually what gives way first. Once it does, everything stings a bit more and calms a bit more slowly.

Sleep is doing more work than your serum, which is not what anyone wants to hear. Skin does a great deal of its repair overnight, and broken sleep is one of the most common threads behind a flare that will not shift.

We treat the skin. We cannot treat the stress. What we can do is support the barrier while life is loud and make sure the routine is not adding to it. The rest belongs with you, and sometimes with your GP.

Most people can tell when their skin is reacting to a stressful stretch, but it rarely announces itself as stress.

It turns up as a flare that will not settle, or healing that is taking noticeably longer than it used to. Sometimes it is only that a product you have used happily for a year has started to sting.

The skin barrier is usually the first thing to give way, and once it does, everything stings a bit more and calms a bit more slowly.

The part nobody enjoys hearing is that sleep is probably doing more work than your serum. Skin does a great deal of its repair overnight, and broken sleep is one of the most common threads we see behind a flare that will not shift.

A little R&R for the girls 🤍

Our team spends every day looking after everyone else, so sometimes it's nice to take a little time to pause, recharge and reset, so we can continue to give the best of ourselves.

You might have noticed Cedar Recovery Studio on the downstairs corner of our building, and we were lucky enough to pop in for a little team recharge.

Such a beautiful space to pause, unwind and reconnect with yourself, and for a little while, forget about everything else going on around you.

Thank you Jess from Cedar's Recovery for being so welcoming and creating such a gorgeous space right downstairs from us. We loved our little reset! ✨

If you're looking for a space to pause, recharge and reconnect with yourself, Cedar Recovery Studio is definitely worth checking out. 🤍

Stressed skin often stings, flushes and stays reactive even when the routine has not changed. The barrier is usually the first thing to give way, and raised cortisol has been linked with one that holds moisture less well and calms more slowly.

Most of the barrier's rebuilding happens overnight. Melatonin helps time that repair, and cortisol is meant to sit at its lowest while it runs, so broken or late sleep shortens the window the barrier has to work in.

Which is why the two changes worth making sit at opposite ends of the day. The last hour before bed: dimmer, cooler, darker, screens down. And daylight early, because it helps set that evening's melatonin.

Our therapists are trained in this way of reading a client, through the Wholeness Medicine work of Pia Kynoch, who is speaking at What Women Want this year on Sunday 25 October. It is why a consult here asks about your day and not only your routine.

Spring puts more load on skin than most people expect. Histamine levels rise, the wind picks up, pollen arrives, and oxidative stress climbs with it. Skin that was settled a month ago can turn reactive and sensitive seemingly out of the blue.

Keanah on why Flare earns its place at this time of year: formulated to calm the look of reactive skin, support cellular hydration, and help skin hold its resilience through the next flare-up rather than only the current one. Two peptides do the work, Tetrapeptide-40 and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8, both chosen for skin that runs reactive.

The timing is the point. Introduce it before your skin becomes a problem, as part of your spring toolkit rather than the thing you reach for once you are already flaring.

Available in clinic. Call us on (02) 4297 7455.

Skin Correctives has won the 2026 Phorest Client Experience Award.
It is awarded on twelve consecutive months of client ratings, across a minimum of 60 reviews, from March 2025 through to February 2026. Sustained across the full year, not a strong month or two, it is measured directly from what clients reported after their appointments. Which is precisely why it matters to us.
And a particular word about Keanah. She has collected more Phorest reviews this year than anyone else in the clinic. Swipe through and you will see her name again and again, in our clients’ own words: the knowledge, the care, the fact that people feel so safe and cared for by her.
Thanks to every client who took the time to leave a rating, and to our team who earned them. ❤️

Every treatment now starts the same way.

Before any device or active product goes near your skin, we begin with a grounding first cleanse. A few unhurried minutes, deliberately slow, so your nervous system has a chance to catch up with the fact that you have stopped.

Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone, and it is known to influence the skin. Research links ongoing stress with slower healing and a weaker barrier. So that is where we start.

Our therapists brought it in at the end of August, and clients took to it faster than we expected. It is included in every appointment, at no extra charge.

Karen asked Dress for Success Illawarra seven questions.

What they actually do, what to donate, where the money goes, and we also discussed why Skin Correctives keep supporting them over the years.

Every dollar raised at What Women Want what_women_want_illawarra on 25th October is split between two local charities. This is one of them.

Three things that get blamed for skin, and what is actually going on.

Chocolate. The evidence for chocolate as a direct cause is thin. What you eat overall and how stressed you are matter a great deal more than any single food.

Dirty skin. Acne is not a hygiene failure, and treating it as one tends to make it worse. Over-cleansing strips a barrier that is already struggling.

Drinking more water. Hydration matters for your health, genuinely it does. On its own it will not repair a barrier or clear a flare.

The answers here are rarely complicated. They are just specific to you, which is why the internet cannot hand you one.

Which of these have you been told most often?
