Could it be ADHD? 🧠
All children can be distracted, impulsive, energetic or emotional from time to time. ADHD is about a persistent pattern of difficulties that has a meaningful impact on everyday life.
ADHD can look different from child to child. Some children may be restless and impulsive, while others may appear quiet, dreamy or easily distracted. They may also experience challenges with organisation, transitions, emotional regulation, friendships or everyday routines.
Being able to focus for hours on a favourite activity doesn’t automatically rule out ADHD. Children with ADHD can often concentrate deeply on things that are interesting, enjoyable or highly motivating.
It’s not about one behaviour. It’s about the overall pattern, how long it has been present, whether it occurs across different settings and the impact it has on your child’s learning, relationships, confidence and family life.
If you’re noticing ongoing difficulties and wondering whether an assessment could help, you don’t have to work it out alone. An assessment can provide a clearer understanding of your child’s strengths and needs, and help identify the right supports.
At Walky Talky Hub, we offer ADHD assessments for children aged 6 years and above.

Okay, we know… it’s just footy. 😂
But if you’re a Fremantle Dockers fan - especially a little one - a Grand Final loss can feel VERY serious indeed. 💔💜
So, if your child is struggling with the disappointment, Lydia (our Psychologist) has 3 simple tips to help them through it:
🫶 1. Validate before you rationalise
Before jumping in with “there’s always next year!” or “it’s only a game”, acknowledge how they’re feeling.
“It is so sad they lost. I’m sad too!”
They need to feel understood before they’re ready to move on.
⚽ 2. Focus on the effort, not the outcome
Help them notice what went well rather than focusing only on the final score.
“They played such a great game.”
“Did you see that tackle?”
“They were in it right from the start!”
🤗 3. Co-regulate
Big feelings can be easier to manage when we experience them with someone else. A big hug, sitting together, having a kick of the footy or simply being there with them can help their nervous system settle.
Because while we might know that losing a footy game isn’t the end of the world… it can certainly feel like it when you’re a passionate little footy fan. 😂💜
And honestly, adults can probably use these tips too. 😉

Is your little one always up on their tippy-toes? 👣
It’s one of the most common questions we get from parents here at Walky Talky: “Is it okay that my child is walking on their tiptoes?”
In this video, our paediatric physio Nat shares what’s typical and when it might be worth seeking some extra support.
👣 Toe walking can be a normal part of development! As toddlers become confident walkers, they often experiment with balance and different ways of moving. You might notice more tiptoe walking around the time they start learning to jump.
However, there are a few things to look out for:
✨ Your child walks on their toes more than 50% of the time.
✨ Toe walking continues for more than a month or so.
✨ Your child is over 3 years old.
✨ They can’t physically get their heels flat on the ground.
✨ They walk with one foot flat and the other on tiptoes.
✨ They’re frequently tripping or seem to be losing previously acquired skills.
Every child is different, and toe walking can have a range of causes. If you’re concerned about your little one’s walking pattern, our experienced paediatric physios are here to help! 💛

🌋 Speech practice… with a side of VOLCANO! 🗣️🌋
This little client had a very exciting break during his speech therapy session this week with Speech Pathologist Sarah!
The volcano experiment was used as a highly motivating reinforcer between blocks of speech sound practice. After working hard on his target sounds, he got to mix, pour and watch his volcano bubble and erupt like lava! 🤩
And it worked a treat! He was so motivated to get back to his speech sound practice so he could have another turn with the volcano — and absolutely smashed his targets. 👏
We love finding the things that motivate each individual child and using their interests to make therapy engaging, meaningful and fun 😊

🌊 You can’t stop the waves… but you can learn to surf.
Parenting, relationships and life with children can bring plenty of unexpected waves. Big emotions, anxiety, challenging behaviour, parenting overwhelm, difficult transitions and moments that leave you wondering, “How am I supposed to handle this?”
Psychological support isn’t about making sure the waves never come. It’s about helping you understand what’s happening, build practical strategies and feel more confident navigating the difficult moments when they do.
At Walky Talky, Clinical Psychologist Lydia Cargeeg supports children, parents and families through challenges including anxiety, emotion regulation, parenting overwhelm, adjustment to parenthood and more — with a warm, practical and evidence-based approach.
Sometimes you don’t need the waves to stop. You just need a little support learning how to ride them. 💜

When you’re a clinical psychologist but you decide to test out a physio’s gross motor activity before their client arrives… 😂
Lydia was helping one of our physios get an activity ready for their client, so naturally she had to give it a go herself!
The mission was to rescue all the animal bean bags from the stairs — one at a time! 🐾 Climb up, rescue an animal, climb back down to the bottom, then head back up for the next one.
A simple activity, but a great way to practise stair climbing, lower limb strength, coordination and endurance while giving kids a fun and motivating reason to keep moving.

🏃♀️ Getting Your Child Ready for the Sports Carnival 🏆
Sports day can be exciting… and sometimes a little nerve-wracking for kids. The goal? To help them feel prepared, confident, and—most importantly—have fun!
Here are some simple tips from our Physios to set them up for success:
✅ Be Prepared – Find out the events ahead of time so you can support and practice the right skills.
✅ Break Down Skills – Practice small parts of each event (e.g., just stepping in and out of a sack before the whole sack race).
✅ Practice Running Technique – Good running form boosts speed, confidence, and reduces injuries.
✅ Build Ball Skills Gradually – Start with light, slow-moving objects like balloons or scarves before progressing to balls.
✅ Celebrate the Wins – Acknowledge their efforts, not just results. Tie celebrations to shared activities.
✅ Normalise Effort – Show them it’s okay to get hot, sweaty, and out of breath—it means they’re working hard!
💬 And remember, it’s okay for kids to feel nervous or disappointed sometimes. With the right support, they’ll bounce back and try again.
✨ At Walky Talky Hub, our physios help kids prepare for sports carnivals by building skills, confidence, and a positive association with movement—whether it’s running, ball games, or team events.

Baby close to walking? 👣
Try using a lower table or low, sturdy piece of furniture during play! (An ottoman or play couch cushion works great too!)
A lower surface makes it easier for your baby to pull themselves up to standing, squat back down and then pull up again.
And that’s the magic — repetition! 🔁
Giving your baby lots of opportunities to practise the same movement over and over helps them build the strength, balance, coordination and confidence they need for independent walking.
So instead of helping your baby stand just once, set them up somewhere they can pull up → squat down → pull up → squat down again and again!
